Baseball in the Fog

For those who don't know me outside of this website, I'm the father of two children and purchased my first 'real' camera six months before my now 12 year old son was born. That led to landscape photography and eventually Wednesdays in Marblehead. For every landscape shot I share, I probably take 5-10 of the kids doing activities or just trying to capture moments before they grow up. Only once before have my kid shots and the landscape ones come together in a group shot of kids at Redd's during the Fourth of July sailboat regatta. Last night, I was [...]

Gazebo at Sunset

As the blizzard takes shape outside on this mid-March morning, I just couldn't stomach posting an image of snow.  Instead, I turned to this incredible night at Crocker Park from late November. I had been shooting as the sun fell near Abbot Hall but noticed the best of the sunset color was quickly moving out of my composition. I walked back and found the gazebo at Crocker Park perfectly positioned under the peak light of sunset.  Without a flake of snow on the ground, this seemed like a much better image to start off this day. I'm sure I'll have [...]

November Sunset at Crocker Park

Last night, I watched the clouds take shape over Marblehead and decided to head out just before sunset to capture what promised to be a good show.  I had a tough time deciding on a destination and ended up at the Landing.  I shot from near the Harbormaster's station until the light began to fade over the harbor and looked over my shoulder only to find an explosion of color over Crocker Park. I ran up Mariner Lane, across Front Street and then behind the Herreschoff Castle to reach my favorite spot at Crocker Park.  I quickly set up the [...]

Concerts at Crocker Park – A Festival of Arts Tradition

It's hard to believe that the Fourth of July is nearly upon us and with it the Marblehead Festival of Arts.  As part of this incredible tradition, music is offered daily in concerts at Crocker Park.  The full schedule can be found here: Concerts at Crocker Park  Today's image was captured on the night of July 2nd, 2015 during one of the concerts and a beautiful Summer sunset.  The view of Crocker Park packed with people should help convince anyone that Marblehead is the best place to enjoy the Fourth of July.

Chestnut Tree at Crocker Park

I wanted to share something other than a harbor scene and found this image of the chestnut tree at Crocker Park in my archive.  I had gone out at the end of May to Crocker Park only to find this tree in full bloom.  The blossoms kept me busy trying to find compositions from every angle. In the end, I had three favorites and shared two in the Spring.  Here is the final image of the chestnut tree in full bloom at Crocker Park.  I wonder if its leaves have changed colors for Fall yet...

Play Ball at Seaside Park

This year, the North Shore baseball league brought their Summer series to Seaside Park in Marblehead.  The Marblehead Seasiders played games on weekdays and weekends in front of the wooden grandstand that still stands after one hundred years. I drove by several times when games were in session and it was quite a sight to view a game being played at this perfect little field.  With the first season over, I'm sure many in town will look forward to watching a Summer game at Seaside park next year.

Marblehead Concerts at Crocker Park

One of the best parts of the annual Marblehead Festival of Arts is the concert series that takes place each day in Crocker Park.  Beginning Friday before sunset, this year's Concerts at Crocker Park kicks off with jazz.  The music continues day and night throughout the Fourth of July weekend. Last year, I was fortunate to be at Crocker Park enjoying the music with my family when the sky exploded in a brilliant pink and purple sunset.  I captured familiar compositions including the view of Abbot Hall from the park but also climbed up behind the stage to photograph the band during [...]

Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree

I shared an image of the full canopy of this blooming Chestnut tree at Crocker Park the other day.  Immediately after taking that image, I moved around to a familiar spot and set about composing this shot of Abbot Hall against a perfect May sunset from under the spreading Chestnut tree.  I couldn’t have asked for better light as I clicked the shutter and was thrilled with the final image showcasing the unique pyramidal flowers of the Chestnut tree against the familiar landmark of Abbot Hall. Something about the term Chestnut tree triggered memories and I googled the phrase when I arrived home. [...]

Blooming Chestnut Tree Aglow at Sunset

On Saturday night, my wife, son and I took the dog out to Crocker Park for an impromptu picnic dinner (my daughter was at a friend's house).  After finishing a nice meal from Shubie's for us (two slices of Marblehead House of Pizza for the 10 year old...), we wandered around the park letting our puppy explore this new area. Even from a distance, I noticed a change in the large chestnut tree at Crocker park - it was in full bloom with incredible pyramidal flowers dotting its full canopy.  Thankfully, I had thought to bring my camera bag (just [...]

Budding Trees under Purple Skies

After capturing the image shared earlier this week at Crocker Park, I headed up the path and toward my car.  As I looked over my shoulder, I found this scene before me and decided I needed to capture at least one more image of the purple skies over Marblehead Harbor. I composed this image to include the budding trees which line the path leading towards the harbor.  Can't wait for the float to be installed for the Summer at the end of this path.  Seems like only a few more weeks before Crocker park is filled with people and dogs [...]
