Marblehead at the End of the Rainbow

Anyone remember that incredible rainbow that shone on June 17th?  If not, click here to see the full double rainbow over Ram's island LINK. After capturing the full rainbow, I recomposed looking for other unique scenes with the bright rainbow only partially in the frame.  This image of the house at the end of a cliff with the brightest part of the double rainbow caught my eye but has been waiting in the 'to be posted' queue for almost two months now.  Here it is now to mark the end of my third year posting photos on Wednesdays in Marblehead. Come [...]

The Marker at Fifteen-Foot Rock

Another image from Wednesday's impromptu outing to capture the action of  Marblehead Junior Race Week.  As we made our way around the race course, I spotted this marker in bright red and green and the intriguing letters FR.  We came around and I was just able to include the great clouds above and enough water below to offer a reflection.  I later found out the FR stands for Fifteen-Foot Rock.  Hopefully many of you will pass this marker this weekend as you head out to sea from Marblehead Harbor.

Over 700 Images of Marblehead Visualized

This past week, I crossed the 700 mark with this website.  Since starting in August 2010, I have shared over 700 images of Marblehead!  The ironic part is that I never thought I would post more than 50 images per year (figuring I would put up a photo every Wednesday).  I have discovered that this town is too photogenic and the scenes I capture so compelling, that I have ended up sharing 5-7 days per week. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to create a mosaic using every image posted to the site.  The first one [...]

Best of Show – Marblehead Festival of Arts 2013

I am thrilled and honored to announce that the jurors of the 2013 Marblehead Festival of Arts have chosen 'In a Fog on Washington Street' as Best of Show in photography (black and white).  This marks two consecutive years of winning Best of Show in the black and white division and I could not be more humbled that the jurors connected with this image. I will be receiving the award on tonight outside Abbot and will be sitting at Khouri's Oriental Rug & Carpeting (139 Atlantic Avenue) on Saturday from 4-5pm if you would like to stop by.  This image as well [...]

Full Double Rainbow over Marblehead

On Monday night, I shared the story and first image from my wild race to capture the incredible double rainbow that took shape at sunset over Marblehead.  [LINK] As I mentioned, I had driven to Bass Rock Lane as it was the closest spot to the house offering unobstructed views of the water.  Shortly after capturing the image of a double rainbow that I shared immediately after coming home, I turned the camera to the portrait/vertical orientation and fired off 6 shots in the hopes of capturing the full double rainbow. While the earlier shot required little in the way [...]

A Rowboat Named Dimples

This is another image from the sunrise shoot that took place last Wednesday.  I shared an image from this set on Monday and showed a map of the 3 hour photo shoot that followed.  This image was taken after a great breakfast at the Driftwood at 5:30 with a bunch of locals.  I wandered down to the water's edge and found this rowboat name 'Dimples' floating just far enough away from the launch to get this simple composition.  The image was already fairly monotone and I pushed that a bit by going with black and white and heightening the contrast [...]

Marblehead Academy

A quick one to finish off the week.  I was always intrigued by the lettering on this building on Pleasant Street declaring it as the Marblehead Academy.  To read more about the history of this building, click this link: http://marblehead101.wordpress.com/2012/05/04/the-marblehead-academy-1788-1865/

Wednesdays in Marblehead Images at Marblehead Arts Association

Truth be told, I did not have an image planned for today's post.  Then I received an email from the Marblehead Arts Association informing me that one of my submitted prints received a Judges Award in Photography!  In addition to the two images that will be a part of the Annual Summer Member Exhibit, I also have three prints included in the All Things Marblehead Exhibit.  Both exhibits will be at the Marblehead Arts Association located at 8 Hooper Street (the Hooper Mansion on the corner of Washington Street and Hooper). Opening Reception is Sunday, June 9th from 2-4pm and [...]

Come Visit During the Marblehead Art Walk

The Marblehead Art Walk is a great Spring tradition put on as a collaboration between the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce and the Marblehead Arts Association.  Artists and stores are paired and, on Saturday May 11th, the doors open and the public is invited to view the art and maybe visit a store they otherwise wouldn't have thought to enter.  I've really enjoyed my participation in past art walks and am looking forward to today's event. This year, I will be at Starbucks (89 Pleasant Street) from 1-4pm where I will be displaying various photos seen in the flyer above.  I [...]

Something Wicked this Way Comes – Carnival at Devereux Beach

The Carnival is Coming!  I have to say that this is one of my favorite Marblehead traditions...the Senior Carnival at Devereux Beach.  Not only is it a great subject to photograph but it's amazing to bring my kids to now and know that they'll return here for years to come. In the past few years, the carnival has brought along very interesting weather and none more so than 2012 when dense fog descended.  While that may have been bad for business, I couldn't be happier for the chance to shoot the carnival grounds in the fog.  When I arrived, the [...]
