Sailboats at Redds Pond

Continuing this week's theme of black and white images of Marblehead comes this scene from Redd's Pond captured on June 15, 2014. I had been out capturing images using my old dSLR converted to shoot in infrared and had happened upon a few sailboats at Redd's Pond. The infrared image serves to accentuate the foliage in the trees and sails on the boats while pushing the blue sky and water towards deeper shades of black when converted to black and white. Frozen Reflection at Redd’s Pond

It seems like forever since the ice at Redd's Pond has been visible, let alone skate-able. Before all of this snow, we actually had perfect conditions for ice formation and I took my kids to skate on Redd's Pond on several occasions. This image comes from New Years Day when I returned to Redd's Pond to find it empty near sunset with great light reflecting off the red house named Pond View and Old Burial Hill. Moon Reflecting On Frozen Redd’s Pond

It's become a tradition for me to share my annual New Year's Day slideshow and this year's 10-minute show received an incredible welcome. Another part of the day's tradition is going out to shoot. The Long View at Redd’s Pond

In late September, I had been scouting scenes of Fall foliage around Marblehead when I came down from Old Burial Hill and looked out at this long view at Redd's pond. The final image is a result of a seven shot panorama taken from the far end of Redd's pond. Hope you enjoy this unique vantage point.

Pickup Hockey Game at Redd’s Pond

Is there a more classic New England scene than a pickup hockey game on a frozen pond? What Lies Beneath – Fish at Redd’s Pond

On July 5th, my son and I arrived a bit early at Redd's Pond in anticipation of the annual Marblehead Festival of Arts model boat regatta. The waters were calm and the deep blue skies were punctuated by the occasional white cloud. Fog on the Water at Redd’s Pond

On July 2nd, I went out at sunset to scout out spots from which to shoot the Fourth of July fireworks. The tides were going to be approximately the same on this night as on the fourth and I decided to check on a few possible locations that were tide-dependent. Melting Ice at Redds Pond

Don't get nervous/excited...it's another image from the archives and not the status of Redds at the moment. This was actually taken in March 2009 after a snow storm and as the ice began to melt back. The Harvest Moon Rises over Redds Pond

Here's another shot from the archive, this time from mid October 2011. Fall Regatta at Redds Pond

Yesterday, I drove around town looking for hints of Fall foliage. I hit all of my favorite trees from last year and found that many were still in the early stages of turning.
