The Harvest Moon rises over Marblehead Harbor

The Harvest Moon was due to rise tonight and I had been racking my head trying to decide on a new vantage point from which to capture the year's best full moon. Last year, I had taken an image from Crocker Park and lucked out as the tree there had just started to change color owing to an early cold snap. The Harvest Moon Rises over Redds Pond

Here's another shot from the archive, this time from mid October 2011. On the same night that I took this image of the harvest moon and Abbot hall (click to view), I ended up with another great opportunity to shoot this full moon. The Harvest Moon Rises over Marblehead Harbor

I had little hope for capturing this year's Harvest moon. The thick clouds these past few days and today's rain made me think that this year's attempt would be a wash...literally. A funny thing happened at 5pm as I milled around with the kids and neighbors outside, the sun came out and the clouds disappeared. The Harvest Moon rises near Abbot Hall

The Harvest Moon rose last night and I had planned out a perfect vantage point to capture it. Then I noticed the clouds at the horizon and had to quickly come up with a plan B. Turns out that plan B was waiting on the corner of Village Street and Highland Terrace. I carefully maneuvered the camera to the top of the fence while on my tiptoes and used it as a makeshift tripod while grabbing this shot.
