Morning Light – part 2

This was my second view of sunrise this morning (and no, you did not miss part 1 - I'll share that tomorrow)... I had missed the incredible sunrise on Monday morning and the other really nice one on Tuesday and made sure not to miss the possibility of a decent one on this Wednesday in Marblehead. I started off on Front Street shooting toward Marblehead Light with some nice clouds overhead but left there before the sun rose as I had a hunch about the light in the other direction. I drove to Devereux and pulled over in the parking [...]

Final Notice – Calendar Shipping Deadlines

This should be my very last post about the 2022 Marblehead Calendars. This has been, by far, my busiest year for calendar sales with not just a second but third printing!  For all those who have already purchased a calendar - Thank You! For those who have been waiting, deadlines are: Friday, December 17 - First class/Priority Mail in the United States (though I can't guarantee this as I have seen deliveries get 'stuck' at distribution centers in the past few weeks) Wednesday, December 22 - Local Delivery in Marblehead And a bit of year-end housekeeping: Top 10 of 2021 [...]

A Light in Little Harbor

Last Wednesday, I visited Little Harbor at dawn hoping to capture the First Harbor Christmas tree boat with a backdrop of color in the sky. I started shooting at water level but, as the dawn broke, found the angle from the parking lot better for capturing the colors of the rising sun. However, when going through images, this tight grouping of boats immediately caught my eye and I had to work on it. The First Harbor boat casts a golden light in Little Harbor with Marblehead Light's green beacon visible through the trees but also reflecting just to the left [...]

December Mornings in Little Harbor

It's been a while since I've been out to capture a sunrise let alone come home and post the image soon after. With a predicted storm, I had checked the sunrise prediction and gave myself 50:50 odds of a decent showing. Combine that with the annual First Harbor Company Christmas tree being out in the water and I made sure to get up to capture this morning's view of Little Harbor. I didn't see much color at first but then the dawn broke and I made some quick adjustments in location and camera settings to keep focus on the small [...]

Happy Chanukah from Wednesdays in Marblehead (and a note for holiday print cut off dates)

I had every intention of capturing the menorah at Marblehead Savings Bank again this year but the day got away from me so I turned back to this image captured on December 15, 2012 and breathed new life into it with the marked improvements in photography software over the past decade. This image originally came out dark and grey due to the HDR workflow I had used to balance the light of the setting sun and the shadows of the building but now I was able to use the single image and come away with a brighter photo more consistent [...]

Christmas Walk Pop Up Shop – This Saturday from 9-12

This Saturday, December 4th, I will have a Pop Up Shop at Eat Well Kitchen located at 12 Atlantic Avenue. This will coincide with the annual Marblehead Christmas Walk parade and I am very excited to have a spot to showcase my calendar, book and a variety of prints. If you have ever wondered what my matted, framed, canvas or metal prints look like, stop by and take a look at them in person. I will have a few matted prints of my Christmas at Sea as well as the recent At the Crocker Park Float favorite. Hope to see [...]

Peach’s in the Rain

Is it Peach's Point or Peaches Point? I thought the latter but checked to make sure and just about every reference out there is to Peach's Point... This shot comes from November 19th and an aborted outing to capture the moonrise which no-showed on account of clouds. I arrived at Chandler Hovey Park in cold, windy conditions to meet another group of photographers and noticed the rain over Peach's (Peaches) as the last hint of sunset colors was fading in that part of the sky. Luckily I had my longest lens already on the camera so I quickly rotated 90 [...]

Marblehead – Swampscott Thanksgiving Game 2021

This game had it all!  Two undefeated teams both heading to the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium next week.  Big plays and a back-and-forth that seemed destined to end in a tie until Eli Feingold, a senior, drilled a 37 yard field goal with no time left on the clock.  Great game! All images below. Click any to visit my Flickr page where my football images are hosted and watch a video of the winning field goal and end of the game.
