I will be back at Shubie's on Sunday from 12-2pm with framed/canvas/metal/standout/thinwrap prints on display along the front of the store as well as a selection of matted prints available for purchase.  I will also have a preview of my 16-month 2017 calendar.

A Night at the Corinthian Yacht Club

My wife and I are headed out to opening night at the Dolphin Yacht Club this evening which led me to hunt through the archive for images of the yacht clubs in Marblehead to feature this morning.  Unfortunately, I don't have any of the Dolphin's facade yet (hoping to remedy that soon enough) but I did find this image of the Corinthian Yacht Club taken at the end of July 2015. I had gone out on this night to shoot the blue moon and found myself in position a bit early.  With that opportunity, I sought out compositions across the [...]

Pools of Light in Marblehead Harbor

By |2016-11-06T12:03:32-05:00May 12th, 2016|Categories: Marblehead Harbor|Tags: , , , |

As the boats begin to fill the harbor, I can't help but think ahead to the Summer months with boats filling the harbor and plenty of opportunities to shoot sunsets over the water. Today's image was taken on June 24, 2015 during a very nice sunset that led to a number of 'keepers'.  I was shooting along the causeway and the wind would pick up every so often disturbing the water in the harbor.  There were a few patches of water that seemed to be protected from the effects of the wind and, as the sky filled with color, these [...]

The Working Boats in Marblehead Harbor

By |2016-11-06T12:03:32-05:00May 11th, 2016|Categories: Marblehead Harbor|Tags: , , , |

In mid-April, I headed out to Crocker Park at sunset as the clouds held the promise of a solid Spring sunset. I've shared one image from this night and the beautiful pink sky over Marblehead Harbor but had a few more favorites from the evening. After capturing the wide view of clouds reflecting the colors of sunset taking place directly behind me, I zoomed in and sought out this composition of the working boats in Marblehead harbor.  As pleasure boats begin filling the moorings in earnest and the yacht clubs get ready to open for the season, it's nice to [...]

Picnic Pavilion at Devereux Beach

By |2016-11-06T12:03:32-05:00May 10th, 2016|Categories: Beach|Tags: |

On Friday night, my family and I headed to Devereux Beach and the Marblehead Carnival as the forecast predicted this might be our best chance to enjoy the carnival and avoid the rain.  We arrived after grabbing a quick dinner at Shubie's (where I will be for Marblehead Art Walk this weekend!) and made our way through the carnival. The layout had changed this year and I was disappointed to find the ferris wheel was not set up.  This disappointment only increased when I noted the cloud structure over the ocean and the gap in cloud cover near where the [...]

A Ferris Wheel Sunset

While rain frequently follows the Marblehead carnival as it sets up in town, the benefit of such weather also means the opportunity for beautiful sunsets.  The day after yesterday's image of the ferris wheel reflected in two puddles, I returned with my family and took the ferris wheel ride with my daughter at sunset. As we reached the top of the ferris wheel, I noticed the light over Devereux Beach and captured this image of the carnival, beach and ocean beyond.  Enjoy the Marblehead Carnival this weekend.

Rain or Shine for the Marblehead Carnival

By |2016-11-06T12:03:33-05:00May 5th, 2016|Categories: Beach|Tags: , , |

The Marblehead Carnival is in town!  For those who didn't notice the non-stop rain that always accompanies the Senior carnival or the signs posted around town, this will serve as your official notice to head to Devereux Beach for fried dough, old school rides and a fun four days. While the inclement weather has approached the feel of a running joke, the fog and rain have made for some great conditions to photograph the annual event.  Today's image comes from May 1, 2014 and an empty night at the carnival.  As you can see, recent rains had formed puddles in [...]

Remembering the Blossoms

By |2016-11-06T12:03:33-05:00May 4th, 2016|Categories: Spring|Tags: , |

This has to be the dreariest Spring to ever hit Marblehead as we have paid for the mild Winter with endless cold and rainy days.  The weather has played havoc with the flowering trees as most haven't even flowered or did after the leaves had already appeared.  The end result has been a dreary Spring and a collective wait for the warmth of Summer. If you have followed my site for any length of time, you'll know that Spring doesn't officially arrive in my mind until I can capture images of cherry blossoms.  This year may end up being a [...]

Under the Stairs and Behind the Curtain at the Gerry School

By |2016-11-06T12:03:33-05:00May 2nd, 2016|Categories: School|Tags: |

One last view of the Elbridge Gerry Elementary School before tonight's Town Meeting discussion of the feasibility study that will be put to voters in the Fall.  The Gerry School is a very small building by modern school standards and it seems that 100 years ago there must have been little need for offices for any of the administrative staff. As I explored the basement, I found two makeshift offices that highlight the resourcefulness of the staff at the Gerry School.  One office can be seen above literally under the stairs leading down to the basement gymnasium. Below, a shared [...]

The Boys and Girls Rooms at the Gerry School

By |2016-11-06T12:03:33-05:00April 29th, 2016|Categories: School|Tags: |

As I made my way through the Elbridge Gerry Elementary School, I found myself in the basement and turned to find these bright yellow bathrooms with beautiful murals along the walls.  What struck me was that the boys and girls rooms were in one long connected space down here and, with the single wood door between them open, it made for a quick travel through the basement. The murals seen here and elsewhere show the care and pride that those who work at the school have in their building.  They've made due with facilities that seem to have far outlived [...]
