Marblehead Christmas Walk – Santa Waves to the Gathering Crowd

As the annual Marblehead Christmas Walk parade came to a close, Santa and Mrs. Claus turned the corner onto Washington Street waving to the gathered crowd.  With the unseasonable warm temperatures, the crowd was quite large this year and I decided to focus on Santa as he waved while trying to capture the size of the crowd lined up along Washington Street as well as Abbot Hall in the distance. The final image seemed to capture what is so special about Marblehead and this time of year - a perfect mix of holiday and tradition carried through in the present [...]

Marblehead Christmas Walk – Marching up State Street

The annual Marblehead Christmas walk took place this weekend and, between the parade and Glover's regiment re-enactment of the crossing of the Delaware, I ended up with five images I wanted to share with you.  So all of this week will feature images from this year's Marblehead Christmas walk festivities. First up is this image of Glover's regiment marching up State Street.  I forgot that the fire department leads the parade in one of their trucks and therefore had to make a last minute change in my plans to capture Glover's regiment marching up State Street.  I quickly crossed the street and took [...]

A Marblehead Christmas

When I first spotted this little dinghy in Little Harbor with a Christmas tree in it, I knew I had to find a way to capture this perfect representation of a Marblehead Christmas.  I scouted out the location and decided that I really needed snow and/or lights on the tree and Marblehead Light in the distance to complete the scene. As luck would have it, we received some ocean-effect snow flurries on Saturday, December 20th and I rushed out to Little Harbor.  Unfortunately, the lights in the tree had shorted during a recent storm and those on Marblehead Light seem [...]

Santa Claus comes to Marblehead

On Saturday, December 7th as part of the Annual Marblehead Christmas Walk, Santa and Mrs. Claus came to town.  They arrived aboard a lobster boat and stopped for photos prior to making their way up State Street in the annual Christmas Walk parade.  The weather cooperated with fairly mild temps for early December and the coating of snow that had fallen overnight put much of the town in a festive mood.  Turnout was great and my family and I ended up on the corner of State and Washington streets with me hoping for a shot that would include the newly [...]

Keep it Local – Mini Marblehead at the Gerry 5

On December 22nd, the Gerry 5 opened its doors and showed off the great miniaturized town of Marblehead.  I headed down with my kids as we had missed this in years past and we all gazed at the incredible work that lay before us.  There were a half dozen readily recognizable scenes of Marblehead and a train (seen in the background above) to recreate life as it was decades ago.  If you missed this next year, make sure you visit next December.  And look below for two more images from the town.

Marblehead’s Christmas Tree

The annual Christmas tree lighting took place a few weeks ago in the National Grand Bank parking lot.  I was too busy with the kids and friends to photograph the tree at the time.  One day, while at National Grand Bank, I spoke with Jim Nye and he offered to turn on the lights a bit early so that I could get a certain composition.  I awoke that Thursday and headed straight for the bank.  It was still too dark for the image that I had envisioned so I spent some time shooting the marquees of businesses with empty streets [...]

Glover’s Regiment at the Christmas Walk Parade

This weekend marked the Annual Christmas Walk and, as the festivities began, a light snow fall commenced to add to the festive mood.  After Santa landed by way of a lobster boat and took photos with the assembled kids, a parade took place led to Glover's Regiment.  I happened to have ended up in front of Old Town House with my kids and, as the regiment marched up State Street, I quickly grabbed the camera and found an angle to capture this moment.  When the lead drummers turned, I grabbed this image.  The Regiment largely hid the assembled crowd and [...]

Lobster Trap Tree Lighting at Mud Puddle Toys

In keeping with this week's holiday lights theme, here is a photo taken in front of Mud Puddle Toys.  On December, 2nd, shortly after the town's tree lighting, I made my way over to historic downtown Marblehead to witness the annual Lobster Trap Tree lighting at Mud Puddle Toys.  I had missed this tradition my first two years in town and was happy to have made it down to experience this scene.  The Glover's Regiment troop sang sea shanties while the tree was lit and a crowd gathered.  If you haven't seen and heard this in person, make sure you do [...]

Lighting up Old Town House

Old Town House was decorated with lights on its front and back entrances so I decided to head down and try to photograph the festive scene.  With the sun setting at 4pm, however, I had a hard time getting a shot in as the light faded and cars zoomed by.  I decided to make the most of the situation and lengthened the exposure time to capture the cars zooming around Old Town House.  The headlights serve as a nice accent to the already picturesque scene. Rooftop Thursdays will return next week.  Just wanted to keep the holiday light them going [...]
