Broken Moon

Turns out I was 0 for 2 on Saturday, July 4th having gone to Castle Rock for the moonrise (but left before the moon appeared over some low-lying haze) and then missed any rogue fireworks. Just as I 'made up' for the missed fireworks with yesterday's image, I thought I would share this 'to be published' shot of a broken moon from August 2018. Larger Than Life

I went out twice this past week to capture the moonrise and ended up getting skunked by cloud cover both times. I waited over an hour on Friday night but the moon refused to show and I headed home empty handed. Luckily, I still have 40 images of moonrises and moonsets in Marblehead that have not been published yet and pulled this one of a larger than life moon from a forgotten shoot in February 2020. By the Light of the Moon

A few days ago, I saw that a group of volunteers climbed Marblehead Light to adorn it with holiday lights a bit earlier than the usual Fourth of July weekend. The move was meant to offer a bit of light to those sheltering in place as we all wait for the coronavirus pandemic to pass. Snow Moon in a Winter without Snow

I lucked out with tonight's outing to capture the snow moon rising when I contacted my book designer and was invited over to shoot from her husband's third floor office window. Not only did I have a perfect vantage point, but I was able to escape the brutally cold wind that would have left me cold but also caused the camera and lens to move as well impacting the final image. Top 10 of 2019 – #7 – Cold Moon over State Street

Cold Moon over State Street

Yesterday offered picture perfect conditions in Marblehead with about an inch of snow sticking to every branch and partly cloudy skies. Hunting the Moon in Marblehead

As disappointed as I was in yesterday's photo excursion, today more than made up for it. I had decided on a whim to drive up to New Hampshire on Saturday to explore foliage and followed some online suggestions on peak foliage. Hunters Moon from Crocker Park

In a few days, the full Hunters moon will rise. As I was looking for an image to share from my 'to be posted' archive, I happened upon this view of the Hunters moon rising over the Corinthian Yacht Club from the vantage point of Crocker Park. Moon over the Regiment

On July 11, 2014, I lucked out when out to capture the full moon with Glover's Regiment having set up for their annual encampment at Fort Sewall. I stood across the way from them and composed this image of the Regiment standing at attention under the light of a full moon. Moments later, they fired several volleys over the harbor which would lead to a favorite image that was shared the next day. This one got relegated to the 'to be published' folder instead.

Corinthian Moonrise

On September 27, 2015, I headed to the end of Ferry Lane (right next to the State Street landing) to capture the moonrise. The full harvest moon rose over Marblehead Neck appearing as a Corinthian moonrise with the yacht club just under the glowing light. I had shared a close up of the moon originally and had left this wider view in my 'To be Published' folder where it waited to see the light of day.
