This year has gotten off to a slow start with only four photo outings to date. The lack of snow played a major role as winter scenes seem to lack a needed element without a bit of white coating. Beacon in the Night

On December 23rd, I headed out to capture the full cold moon rising over Chandler Hovey Park. When I arrived at my spot near the Dolphin Yacht Club, I immediately noticed the red, white and blue lights adorning Marblehead Light. Top 10 of 2018 – #5 Oceanside at Front Street

I'm not sure if this image is necessarily a 'best of' or more of a memorable shot for the amount of power (and subsequent damage) that it captures. On March 3rd, a major Nor'Easter was finally moving offshore after slamming New England with record wind and storm surges. Moonlit Reflection (a composite)

Top 10 of 2018 – #7 Unbelievable Moonrise

I captured two images on January 1, 2018 that would end up being among my favorites of the year. This one of the first supermoon of the year ascending in the sky over Chandler Hovey Park was made possible with a new lens I had acquired just a short while previously. I was actually standing in my book designer's backyard near Skinner Head (Gregory Street and Catherine Lane) to capture this view of the full moon. Beacon of Light in the Fog

On Sunday night after capturing the image of the Christmas tree on the First Harbor dinghy, I turned towards Marblehead Light and noticed that it was the only sign of color on this foggy night. I decided to capture the lighthouse decked out in strings of lights for the holiday using a long-exposure. The 30 second image time served to calm the waters of little harbor and accentuate the foggy mood looking out past Gerry Island towards Chandler Hovey Park. Nothing Better than a Crowded Harbor

Already missing views of a crowded harbor as the days grow colder and next summer seems far too far away. This image was taken on September 1st using my longest lens set at 400mm. The focal length helps compress the view and makes Marblehead harbor seem packed with boats.

Golden Light on an Emptying Harbor

I mentioned a few days ago that I had gone out to Crocker Park on Friday night hoping for a nice sunset and some foliage. I ended up getting lucky with the former but with most of the good light positioned behind Abbot Hall. Before capturing that image, I pointed my lens toward the golden light on Marblehead Neck and the sad view of an emptying harbor. There was a patch of leaf color in one tree at Crocker Park with two others having already emptied of leaves.

Fall in Little Harbor

After capturing the first signs of autumn across Salem harbor, I drove up West Shore Drive, past the Waterside Cemetery and around Beacon Street. I pulled over just past Gingerbread Hill when I saw these clouds filling the afternoon sky over Gerry Island and Marblehead Light. With the first hint of color in the leaves on Gerry Island and the empty moorings, I thought the scene captured fall in Little Harbor.
