After capturing the sunrise at Grace Oliver beach on April 1st, I made my way to the Harris Street Cemetery where I had been capturing the cherry blossoms each year since 2010. For the first time ever, and quite fittingly for the first day in April, snow fell as I wandered the small cemetery looking for new angles and compositions. Fort Beach Reflections

We'll end the week with one of my favorite summer outings every - July 3, 2018. I had just left the Crocker Park music festival (part of the annual Marblehead Festival of Arts that has been cancelled this year). I made my way to Front Street and then up a bit where the road curves to Fort Sewall. Gracey Sunrise

On Wednesday April 1st, I woke early to capture the first light of the new month hoping this one would not last as long as March had. I started off at the Landing and then continued down Fort Street with a quick stop at the Barnacle and then in front of Fort Beach before turning onto Fort Beach Lane and then continuing onto Orne Street. Beach Party

No April Fools Jokes this year but rather a hopeful look forward to a similar beach party scene taking place at Devereux Beach this summer. Everytime I look at this image, I notice something new. Between the sunbathers on the beach, the swimmers in the ocean and those on the wet sand in between, there are endless micro scenes to explore.

Abbot from Above

Almost exactly three years ago (March 29, 2017), I flew my drone high over Lee Street at sunset to capture a view of the whole of Abbot from above. It's hard to capture the full breadth of this building but this aerial views allowed me to not only get all of Abbot Hall in the frame but also the varied architectural styles and colors of houses surrounding the building.

Two Feet Apart

On February 1st when I captured Glover's Regiment standing at attention in front of Old Town House, phrases such as 'social distancing' were not even in our vocabulary. For now, let's try to stay as far apart from one another as one of these muskets might reach and look forward to warmer days ahead and hopes of putting social distancing safely behind once more.

The Spirit of ’76

When the Spirit of '76 bookstore closed its doors a few months ago, I thought I had missed a chance to capture its facade. When I looked through my archive this week, I was happy to find this shot from March 23, 2014. As we finish off a second week of social distancing, it is more important than ever to try to support our local businesses before they face the same prospects as the Spirit of '76.

Cherry Blossoms are Coming

My favorite part of spring is capturing the cherry blossoms in full bloom. This began when we were living in Washington, DC while I was a medicine resident at Georgetown University. After moving to Marblehead, I was thrilled to find a cluster of cherry blossom trees in the Harris Street cemetery. I have returned each year and have lucked out with conditions on some more than others. This image is from late April 2018. I have a feeling this year the blossoms will peak much earlier.

Spring Dawn

And today's shot had an even longer wait. Captured on April 23, 2014, I had visited Hammond Park on this morning and found very subtle fog floating over the waters of Marblehead Harbor. I spotted this whaler on its mooring and then waited as the first light of this spring dawn painted the sky and water is pastel orange color.

A Four Year Wait

Today's image was captured on March 18, 2016 representing a four year wait for its debut. I remember heading out on this spring evening and finding a picture perfect scene before me as I stood at the Pleon Yacht Club pier. I captured various compositions as the clouds moved and the light shifted. In this one, I wanted to focus on the emptiness of the harbor with a single sailboat moored in front of Abbot Hall.
