Pink Fire in the Sky over Marblehead Harbor

Saturday was a busy day and one filled with incredible light. I had gone out earlier that afternoon to shoot sailboats racing in the Jackson Cup and then returned when I saw a clearing near the horizon and high clouds with an undulating structure forming above. I debated where to stop and shoot what was likely to be a beautiful sunset and decided on Chandler Hovey Park where I hadn't captured images in some time. Longing for Summer Sunsets

As the days get longer, one can't help longing for Summer sunsets over Marblehead harbor. This incredible sunset filled with pinks and purples formed over a full harbor on July 21, 2013 and I was setup at the Pleon Yacht Club's pier for a perfect vantage point. This particular sunset seemed to go on forever (I have images starting to show brilliant pinks at 8:20 and finishing 11 minutes later). I can't wait for a full harbor and warm days to recapture these moments in Marblehead.

Purple Sunset and a Golden Weathervane

Clouds on Fire – Marblehead Harbor

On Friday night, as the sky exploded in pinks and purples, I pulled out my iPhone and snapped a quick photo to share on my Facebook page. This image was taken immediately after as the vivid pink light of sunset created the illusion of clouds on fire over Marblehead Harbor. The scene before me was incredible to behold in person. Golden Light over Marblehead’s Skyline

I had planned to share images of Friday night's spectacular sunset this week but last night's full moon offered an opportunity I couldn't miss. Fort Beach Sunset

On February 21st, I visited Fort Sewall to capture a full moon and ended up being treated to a nice Winter sunset. I began shooting on the far end of Fort Sewall looking out toward Gerry Island and slowly made my way around as the sun set and the colors built up in the sky. As the light began to fade, I found this vantage point from atop Fort Sewall looking out over Fort Beach and the waning light of sunset. Red Sky over Marblehead Harbor

The recent run of warm weather has put the Summer season firmly in mind and made me long for evenings where the sun sets after 7 and does so over a harbor filled with boats. Today's image was taken on August 18 at 7:26pm as hazy conditions contributed to a red sky at night. I decided to shoot this as a tighter image with little sky over Abbot Hall but with a subtle reflection in the water surrounding boats on their moorings.

Childrens Island and the Neck Bathed in Golden Light

On February 21st, I headed to Fort Sewall to chase what was shaping up to be a nice sunset and to capture the moon rising behind the great tree. A Shining Star and Abbot Hall

Every December, a shining star appears atop a crane in Marblehead as one of many local markers of the holiday season. I've shot this star from State Street, the causeway and Chandler Hovey Park trying to find interesting compositions. One year, I found a spot where the star seemed to hang over Abbot Hall tower...
