First Rainbow of the Season

There's nothing quite like catching that first rainbow of the season ;-) I had already gone out once today but had come back without any photos to show for the quick drive. National Find a Rainbow in Marblehead Day

I didn't know there was a National Find a Rainbow Day until I saw the Corinthian's post today (April 3rd). Top 10 of 2020 – #5 – Rainbow Sky over Castle Rock

I don't think this has ever happened before but there are three images in my top 10 all captured on the same day (though two outings). It's probably a testament to the fewer times I went out this year but also goes to show just how much the light can change in the span of a few hours. This is the second shot from August 19th (the first was #10 of boats in the harbor) and the third will be tomorrow's image (though I kept switching the positions of these and had a hard time deciding which I liked more). Summer Rainbows over the Causeway

If we are going to continue with temps in the high 80s this late in September, I may need to continue to revisit some favorites from this past summer that hadn't seen the light of day. On June 28, 2020, I headed to Riverhead Beach and was rewarded with a nearly perfect double rainbow forming over the causeway. The outing would last over an hour and include some incredible sunset images as well leading to a fairly large trough of images in the 'to be published' folder from this one summer evening.

Little Rainbow

It's a bit ironic that I had gone out on July 30th in the hopes of capturing a rainbow over Little Harbor but ended up wiht such a nice sunset that this shot of that little rainbow ended up as the fifth (and last) of the images shared from this outing. I had arrived to the Little Harbor Lobster Company lot at a little before 7:30pm and stayed in the car watching for signs of a rainbow after a summer rain passed through. Rainbow Sky over Castle Rock

What a night! I went out initially at 4:15pm after a storm passed south of Marblehead and came away with only one favorite. When I spotted another storm on the radar, I hesitated and debated if it was worth heading out once more and am very glad I did. I started off at Riverhead and along the causeway where I found a very dramatic and dark sky over Marblehead Harbor. End of the Rainbow

Back to that late June evening at Devereux Beach and the most vibrant rainbow I've ever seen in Marblehead. I shared a couple of wide shots of this rainbow but also captured some tighter compositions. I started off with only the rainbow, it's 'double' and the no wake sign in the frame but, when a family came into the frame with a water-skier, I knew I had to include them in this shot of the end of the rainbow.

Rainbow and Old Glory

Today we go back to the causeway and an incredible outing from two weeks ago when I came upon a huge rainbow crossing from Marblehead neck across the causeway and near the midpoint of Devereux Beach. Rainbow Sunset

I was pretty happy after capturing the double rainbow over the causeway but, since the clouds were sticking around, I figured I would wait until the sun set. Exactly 30 minutes after shooting the panorama from the causeway, I was rewarded for my patience with an incredible sunset. You can just make out the last remnants of the rainbow touching the clouds which had reached what I thought was peak color over the Atlantic ocean.
