Causeway Sunset

On Saturday night, I had checked an app that tries to predict strong sunsets and found a really good chance for great light. It's important to know that this app is right less than 50% of the time so I headed out of the house somewhat reluctantly and without clear direction. I headed down Atlantic Avenue and on to Ocean figuring the start of the causeway at Devereux Beach would give me the best shot of figuring out which way the light was strongest. The Winter that Wasn’t

I hoped to have new landscapes or seascapes to share by now but, while I've had weekly photography outings in the past month and a half, they have been solely to capture my son and his teammates on the Marblehead Magician's freshman football team. Those moments have been a lot of fun to capture but I've been looking for opportunities to shoot new scenes of this town as well. Shining Bright on the Neck

This was the scene that greeted me on Saturday night only 20 minutes after capturing Glover's Regiment firing volleys at the State Street landing. I had packed up after capturing the solemn rememberance there and drove up Front Street to Fort Beach where I hoped to capture Marblehead Light shining bright on the Neck with its holiday lights on display. Out Past the Corinthian

On September 30th, I took a drive across the causeway and hit some favorite spots along the Neck under picture-perfect conditions. After a few shots at Chandler Hovey Park, I drove down Kimball Street and stopped where it meets Nahant for this view. Fort Beach and the Neck

I went out twice yesterday and left my gear in the car 'just in case' only to completely miss the potential for a nice sunset; let alone a rainbow and lightning that I saw posted later that night. Ring Around the Neck – Corinthian Lane

Last Wednesday, I headed out shortly after lunch when I noticed clouds had formed overhead and broken up the perfect blue sky. I didn't have a clear destination in mind and ended up making a ring around the neck with stops at some of my favorite locations to take in the last of these late summer/early fall views of the harbor. Summer Rainbows over the Causeway

If we are going to continue with temps in the high 80s this late in September, I may need to continue to revisit some favorites from this past summer that hadn't seen the light of day. On June 28, 2020, I headed to Riverhead Beach and was rewarded with a nearly perfect double rainbow forming over the causeway. The outing would last over an hour and include some incredible sunset images as well leading to a fairly large trough of images in the 'to be published' folder from this one summer evening.

Bathing in Light

Back from a week's staycation with this shot from that mid-August outing which featured the most varied light conditions I've seen in some time. From the same evening in which I captured the ominous sky over the causeway and Tinkers as well as the rainbow at Castle Rock and the vibrant sunset from the Pleon, I also found this scene of Marblehead Neck and Chandler Hovey Park bathing in light from the setting sun. Rainbow Sky over Castle Rock

What a night! I went out initially at 4:15pm after a storm passed south of Marblehead and came away with only one favorite. When I spotted another storm on the radar, I hesitated and debated if it was worth heading out once more and am very glad I did.
