Harvest Moonrise from Crocker Park

On Wednesday, September 30th, the day before it would be a truly full moon, I headed to Crocker Park hoping to capture the Harvest Moon. I had checked the location of the moonrise and found that the timing and weather conditions were far better for the day before it became officially full. The Full Corn Moon

The full corn moon rose over Chandler Hovey Park tonight and I was one of a half dozen photographers among many more onlookers admiring the view of the moon rising over a collection of boats in the mouth of the harbor. Moonglow over Ram Island

I missed the full moon rising the other night but, as luck would have it, happened upon this unpublished shot of moonglow over Ram Island captured on August 29, 2015. I had been disappointed with the lack of a clear shot of the face of the moon in this frame and relegated it to the 'to be published' folder but now really like the added glow created by the soft clouds. It seems to give the moon a bigger presence and the hint of reflected light in the water below balances the shot nicely.

Broken Moon

Turns out I was 0 for 2 on Saturday, July 4th having gone to Castle Rock for the moonrise (but left before the moon appeared over some low-lying haze) and then missed any rogue fireworks. Just as I 'made up' for the missed fireworks with yesterday's image, I thought I would share this 'to be published' shot of a broken moon from August 2018. Larger Than Life

I went out twice this past week to capture the moonrise and ended up getting skunked by cloud cover both times. I waited over an hour on Friday night but the moon refused to show and I headed home empty handed. Luckily, I still have 40 images of moonrises and moonsets in Marblehead that have not been published yet and pulled this one of a larger than life moon from a forgotten shoot in February 2020. Moon and Star over The Landing

On December 12, 2019, the cold moon set over State Street and I was able to capture this view from across the harbor on Harvard Street. I've shared two other images from this morning's outing - one that captured a more panoramic shot to include Grace Community Church and another just to the right that had Old North Church bathed in the light of sunrise. By the Light of the Moon

A few days ago, I saw that a group of volunteers climbed Marblehead Light to adorn it with holiday lights a bit earlier than the usual Fourth of July weekend. The move was meant to offer a bit of light to those sheltering in place as we all wait for the coronavirus pandemic to pass. Snow Moon in a Winter without Snow

I lucked out with tonight's outing to capture the snow moon rising when I contacted my book designer and was invited over to shoot from her husband's third floor office window. Not only did I have a perfect vantage point, but I was able to escape the brutally cold wind that would have left me cold but also caused the camera and lens to move as well impacting the final image. Cold Moon over State Street

Yesterday offered picture perfect conditions in Marblehead with about an inch of snow sticking to every branch and partly cloudy skies. Hunting the Moon in Marblehead

As disappointed as I was in yesterday's photo excursion, today more than made up for it. I had decided on a whim to drive up to New Hampshire on Saturday to explore foliage and followed some online suggestions on peak foliage.
