The Corinthian and Marblehead Light

I mentioned in Monday's post of the sunset off the Village Street dock that we had just returned from a boat ride around Marblehead Harbor. This image of the Corinthian Yacht Club and Marblehead Light was captured towards the end of that circumnavigation. I hadn't approached the CYC from this angle before and marveled at the proximity of the lighthouse on Chandler Hovey Park to the facade of the yacht club. Rounding the Corner at the CYC

I mentioned in yesterday's post that my family was lucky to have been invited out for an evening cruise around Marblehead harbor by good friends. Corinthian Moonrise

On September 27, 2015, I headed to the end of Ferry Lane (right next to the State Street landing) to capture the moonrise. The full harvest moon rose over Marblehead Neck appearing as a Corinthian moonrise with the yacht club just under the glowing light. I had shared a close up of the moon originally and had left this wider view in my 'To be Published' folder where it waited to see the light of day.

Empty Harbor 4 – The Corinthian and Marblehead Light

From my spot along Foster Street, I captured scenes of the empty harbor before me but also turned back toward the Corinthian Yacht Club and found this view of interest. With the seemingly endless expanse of space to the left of the CYC, it appears as thought the empty moorings go on forever. The addition of Marblehead Light positioned behind the Corinthian and the light reflecting off the nearest mooring added to the final image.

Smoke in the Harbor – Corinthian Yacht Club

One year ago on a truly arctic morning at the end of December, I made my way to Front Street and captured sea smoke inside Marblehead Harbor. Since moving to Marblehead in 2008, I've been fascinated by the phenomenon of sea smoke - literal steam coming off the ocean when an arctic air mass lies above the water. The smoke has appeared as early as late December or as late as mid-February. Golden Masts in Marblehead Harbor

This seemed like a good image to finish off the week with a view of golden masts in Marblehead Harbor reflecting the last glow of sunset. I had gone out on June 22nd in the hopes of capturing a nice sunset and was treated to a very nice pink-orange one. Rime Ice at the Corinthian

Last Valentine's Day was the coldest of the entire Winter and resulted in incredible sea smoke conditions within Marblehead Harbor. I captured numerous scenes that morning and ended up at the Corinthian just before 8am where I found rime ice had formed over the rocks near the base of the yacht club. I composed this image to include the rime ice in the foreground, sea smoke over the water (which had turned into confluent fog at that point) and Abbot Hall in the distance. Thankfully, this Valentine's Day was much warmer than the one in 2016.

Hunter Moon over the Corinthian

Tonight's full Hunter moon was dubbed a supermoon for its proximity to Earth and larger than average appearance in the night sky. I had plotted out its projected rise from multiple locations in town but was hoping for a new composition rather than relying on a shot of it coming up against Marblehead Light. Corinthian Yacht Club on a late Summer Evening

The Corinthian Yacht Club was organized over 130 years ago and stands along Corinthian Lane as the Neck curves into Marblehead Harbor. On the evening of September 20, I had gone out to capture the late Summer fog that had rolled into the harbor and decided on shooting from Corinthian Lane (and the shores below) in what would turn out to be a perfect spot to capture an incredible sunset. Still Waters at Sunset

On Friday night, I headed out at sunset hoping to catch a beautiful sunset light up the evening sky. Clouds had filled the sky as the day progressed but a small break near the horizon offered the chance for sunlight to shine through and set the clouds on fire.
