A String of LIghts on Marblehead Light

For today's image, I decided to look into my 'to be published' archive and focus on images captured in the month of December. I found this one of a string of lights on Marblehead Light from December 18, 2011 and it instantly put me in the mood for celebrating the upcoming holiday. Casting its Light – Marblehead Lighthouse

Not long after the supermoon rose on November 13th, it reached a height and brightness which offered little in the way of compositions. Instead of chasing the moon, I focused instead on the intense golden glow reflecting in the still waters of Marblehead Harbor. I repositioned as the moon rapidly ascended and reached this point at which the moon was casting its light directly over Marblehead Light. Supermoon Rises over Marblehead Light

When I first heard that a supermoon was due to rise in November, I dismissed it as 'yet another supermoon' (it seems we've had two to three of these each year since the last really big one in March 2011 which I used for the cover of my book). Pink Sky and the Hint of Moonrise

October's Hunters Moon came up during a surprisingly nice sunset and, between the two phenomena, I was like a kid in a candy store from my perch at Crocker Park. It was only fitting then that at the first hint of moonrise over Marblehead Neck, the sky turned cotton candy pink. I composed this image to include the boats in Marblehead harbor reflecting the last glow of sunlight and with Marblehead Light's green beacon signaling the sunset.

Dawn on Little Harbor

This past weekend, I had an Allergy conference to attend in Boston. That meant early morning wake ups and, on Saturday, I noted an incredible dawn from our house and quickly scanned the webcams in marblehead to find that the water had turned to a brilliant red display in one of the more impressive views of dawn on Little Harbor I had seen. Red Door and the Hunters Moon

As the Hunters Moon set on Sunday morning, I ran around Chandler Hovey Park trying to find different compositions with which to capture the beautifully lit full moon. At one point I was perched on the rocks shooting dawn breaking behind Marblehead Rock and then turned to see the full moon setting between the supports of Marblehead Light. I quickly altered my position and set up this image to include the red door marking the base and entrance to Marblehead Light on the right with the full Hunters Moon setting between diagonal supports on the left.

Light Between Storms

We had the first real Summer storms pass through Marblehead yesterday with near torrential rains at one point in the afternoon and a bit of thunder and lightning later in the evening. As the first wave of storms passed, I headed out to Chandler Hovey Park hoping to catch a view of Marblehead Light between storms. With the amount of rain that fell, I had a feeling that rainwater would have collected in a familiar spot along the path to the lighthouse. The Working Boats in Marblehead Harbor

In mid-April, I headed out to Crocker Park at sunset as the clouds held the promise of a solid Spring sunset. Blue Moon and Blue Boats – Marblehead Harbor

One of my favorite images captured in 2015 was a close up of the blue moon rising over Chandler Hovey Park with people clearly visible near the base of Marblehead Light watching the beautiful sight. As is the case with many outings, that was not the only image captured on that late July evening as I tried out many different compositions to capture the scene before me.
