I've tried capturing stars and the Milky Way from within Marblehead a few times over the years but never could get the right mix of perfect conditions, a strong foreground and...aiming the camera in the right direction! A Shining Beacon – Marblehead Light

On December 20th, a solar storm held the promise of a display of the Northern Lights over Marblehead. Remembering this spot from my last capture of the aurora borealis in June of last year, I headed to Cove Lane and hoped to capture a similar scene with the added bonus of lights streaming down Marblehead Light. See the Stars at Fort Sewall

In the early morning hours of April 18, I had gone out in search of the Milky Way and returned with several images of the night sky over Marblehead. Night of the Carnival

It's here! The annual Devereux Beach carnival is this weekend and it looks like we'll finally have good weather for the entire duration of it. Under the Milky Way at Castle Rock

On Saturday at 2:30am, I left the house in hopes of capturing the Milky Way over Marblehead. I started off by heading to Fort Sewall and already shared an image of the Milky Way over the harbor, neck and Marblehead Light's green beacon. I never thought I would be able to capture the Milky Way over Marblehead. With our proximity to Boston and the amount of light pollution in the night sky, shooting the Milky Way seemed to be a task reserved for photographers in Maine or the Cape. Aurora over Marblehead

On Tuesday, March 17, the aurora borealis appeared in the sky over Marblehead, Massachusetts. I shared another image from this outing earlier in the day with a mix of green glow and purple spikes from the incredible light display. This image was captured five minutes earlier and shows a much broader and deeper green glow. I corrected the distortion in the lighthouse as it did not affect the aurora over Marblehead as in the other one.

Jophiel Asking for a Blessing – A Sculpture in Snow

There's no question that this Winter has been an incredible and soon an historic one with record amounts of snow and long durations of freezing temperatures. Marblehead Light Under the Stars

I mentioned in yesterday's post that I had gone out to Chandler Hovey park on Sunday at sunset hoping to catch the tail end of a large coronal mass ejection with promises of auroras in the night sky. Marblehead’s Marine Aviation Celebration Begins

This weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the first flight of a marine plane and the mark of marine aviation's beginning. As part of the celebration, four marine helicopters arrived in town today and will make the Village School their home for the weekend. I captured one as it circled Abbot Hall prior to landing and then visited the helicopters with my son in the afternoon.
