Last week, I chased the clouds out to Chandler Hovey Park and was rewarded with a nice sunset. As the light hit its peak, three Lasers came into the harbor. Since Marblehead Junior Race Week began yesterday and continues for the next few days, I thought this image of Lasers at sunset would be a perfect one to share today.
This seemed like a good image to finish off the week with a view of golden masts in Marblehead Harbor reflecting the last glow of sunset. I had gone out on June 22nd in the hopes of capturing a nice sunset and was treated to a very nice pink-orange one. On any other night, this unforgettable sunset over Marblehead Harbor would have been shared as soon as I returned home. However, June 27th wasn't quite like any other night and I had an incredible lightning storm as well as a rainbow over Castle Rock to share before getting to this image. It's hard to believe that the Fourth of July is nearly upon us and with it the Marblehead Festival of Arts. As part of this incredible tradition, music is offered daily in concerts at Crocker Park. The full schedule can be found here: Concerts at Crocker Park Today's image was captured on the night of July 2nd, 2015 during one of the concerts and a beautiful Summer sunset. The view of Crocker Park packed with people should help convince anyone that Marblehead is the best place to enjoy the Fourth of July.
I apologize if the Sting song 'Fields of Gold' becomes stuck in your head when reading this image title but Piers of Gold just fit too well to pass up. This is the third image shared so far from last Thursday's flight over Marblehead Harbor. As the sun dipped lower toward the horizon, the golden hour washed Marblehead Neck in perfect light. I maneuvered the Phantom 4 Pro over these two docks and composed the image to include the Neck circling toward the Corinthian and Marblehead Light beyond while including the boats in the harbor reflecting the light of sunset.
What an incredible night and an epic lightning storm over Marblehead Harbor. I left the house a little after 7pm hoping to capture lightning from Chandler Hovey park but kept missing bolts during the first storm. On Thursday night, I had set up at Harvard Street with my main camera on a tripod and the Phantom 4 Pro overhead to capture what promised to be a solid sunset. As the sun dipped lower in the sky, I turned the drone so that the sunlight washed across the front lens creating a solar flare and bathing the scene in a red glow. Well, this Summer sure is off to a great start! I went out to grab dinner at Mino's while my wife and kids were at a friend's house and then drove across the causeway with an eye to the sky. As Summer officially begins, I thought it appropriate to share a warm image and immediately went to the most productive day of my past 9 years in Marblehead - July 5, 2016. On June 9, I had gone out to capture the moonrise from Fort Sewall and brought my Phantom 4 Pro drone along to see how that might handle the full moon rising over the harbor. Before the moon could rise, the sun set and I found myself with the wrong lens and poorly positioned to capture it from the ground.
