Epiphany Bonfire at Riverhead Beach

Last night, the annual Epiphany tree burning took place with collected Christmas trees arranged in a pile at Riverhead Beach and set aflame with flares to create a massive Epiphany bonfire. I brought my kids with me and we separated while they watched and I searched for new vantage points to shoot the huge flames and gathered crowd. Epiphany Tree Burning – Tonight at Riverhead Beach

The annual Marblehead Epiphany tree burning is tonight at Riverhead Beach. The tradition of lighting collected Christmas trees resumed in 2016 and has been taking place on January 6th every year since (with the one exception last year when it was delayed 2 days due to arctic cold - remember that?) Guardians of the Eastern

Not long after capturing Glover's Regiment on the stage at the State Street Landing, I watched them load up into this boat and reenact the crossing of the Delaware. I shot frame after frame as they crossed in front of Marblehead Light and then watched them pause in front of the Eastern Yacht Club. Framed by Smoke at the Landing

On Saturday, Glover's Regiment took part in the annual Christmas Walk and then arrived at the State Street Landing before 3pm to fire a salute and then re-enact the crossing of the Delaware River. Fighting along Front Street

I received an email this morning from the Glover's Regiment physician (and fellow Georgetown Medicine alumni) reminding me that the Regiment will be having their annual encampment on July 7th. That immediately reminded me of a few images I captured of a battle being reenacted with fighting along Front Street. As was typical back in the day, these soldiers lined up to fire their rifles and I was able to line up my shot with the lighthouse situated just behind the smoke and fire.

Classic Photos at the Carnival

This year's Marblehead high school carnival at Devereux Beach took place under the best conditions in at least the past ten years (since we moved to town). While the near-perfect weather meant for busy days and nights for kids in town, it meant far less interesting photo opportunities than I've had in years past. Lantern Walk at Old Town House

In early February, I was finally able to join the Glover's Regiment for their annual lantern walk to celebrate the life of their benefactor. I shared a video of several images narrated by the captain Seamus Daly but held onto this vertical image to share on a later date. Three Volleys on Old Burial Hill

Last night, Glover's Regiment met in front of Old Town House before their annual memorial march to Old Burial Hill to commemorate the life of John Glover. Epiphany Bonfire in the Falling Snow

Tonight's epiphany bonfire in the falling snow couldn't have been more magical and I almost gave up on shooting it... Epiphany Tree Burning in Marblehead

We moved to Marblehead in 2008 and did not get to experience the Epiphany tree burning until this annual tradition returned a few years ago. The image of hundreds of Christmas trees being set aflame on January 6th with hundreds of people gathered around was awe inspiring and I've tried to capture it from various angles over the years.
