Summer Nights at Crocker Park

Our kids leave for overnight camp in the morning so, after dinner, I decided to pack everyone (including the dog) into the car and head over to Coffey Ice Cream for a couple of scoops. Best Seat in Town

Flying over Crocker Park

I can't remember the last time I flew my drone over Marblehead to capture an aerial landscape but I was definitely doing it on a fairly regular basis in 2018. This image comes from May 23rd when I launched the drone from Crocker Park and took in the aerial view of a sunset while making sure to keep that chestnut tree in the frame.

Racing past Crocker Park

One more image from last weekend's Jackson Cup before we turn towards the Marblehead High School carnival that starts tonight. This was another happy accident of having set my camera to an extended zoom/crop format and being able to compose a shot much tighter than I normally would have. With the sun out for a few minutes and the wind blowing, the sails of these boats reflected nicely in the water of Marblehead harbor. You can just make out a family watching from the benches at Crocker Park.

Snowy Sunset

With a surprise March storm dropping seven inches of snow on Marblehead on Sunday night, I held out hope for photographing the town blanketed in white after finishing up work on Monday. I spent Monday in the clinic while my kids enjoyed the first snow day of the season (enjoyed might be a stretch as the boy was in charge of clearing the heavy snow from our driveway). Golden Light on an Emptying Harbor

I mentioned a few days ago that I had gone out to Crocker Park on Friday night hoping for a nice sunset and some foliage. I ended up getting lucky with the former but with most of the good light positioned behind Abbot Hall. Before capturing that image, I pointed my lens toward the golden light on Marblehead Neck and the sad view of an emptying harbor. There was a patch of leaf color in one tree at Crocker Park with two others having already emptied of leaves.

Sunset Colors at Crocker Park

On Friday night, I headed out to Crocker Park hoping that the coming Nor'Easter might produce a nice sunset while also fearing it was my last chance to capture foliage in town. I found little cloud cover over the harbor and quickly ascended the granite hill and set up for this composition of Abbot Hall and the unique view of houses stacked against it. I spotted some color in the trees on either side and waited for the sunset colors to elevate the rest of the scene. Happy Halloween everyone!

Racing by Crocker Park

With Saturday's Nor'Easter, I had just about given up on capturing foliage in Marblehead. With a shortened schedule for the EYC's annual Halloween Race, I headed across the causeway and set up along the Eastern's pier to capture scenes of the colorful boats passing by Crocker Park toward Abbot Hall. As the sun poked through the clouds, Crocker Park lit up behind the boats and I spotted some colorful leaves in the background. Over the Chestnut Tree at Crocker Park

Since discovering the beauty of the chestnut tree at Crocker Park when it hits peak bloom, I've tried to find new vantage points from which to capture it. On a late May evening, I flew my drone over Crocker Park just as the sunset hit its peak to capture this view of the chestnut tree and the Marblehead skyline illuminated by the pinks and blues of a spring sunset.

At the Crocker Park Float – July 4, 2018 – 4:40pm

This is the last in my series of aerial images over Marblehead's favorite watering holes captured around high tide on Wednesday, July 4th. After capturing aerial photos of the core Marblehead beaches, I headed to Old Town to pick up one of my framed photographs from the Festival of Arts exhibit.
