Where in Marblehead – Sunset From …

Since we are solidly in 'stick season', I decided to dive into the archive of images waiting to be shared.  For this week, I will be posting images that were taken from unique vantage points and will leave it to you to guess where the image was taken.  Answers are in the original post. Today's 'Where in Marblehead' image features a beautiful sunset captured in early November from ___ Answer:

Headliner – News Story on Wednesdays in Marblehead

On Wednesday, October 29, I met with James Maroney of Marblehead TV for an interview about Wednesdays in Marblehead, the book and a 'behind the scenes' of what I do.  We met on the rail trail and talked as I scouted out the location and captured a few images.  The interview airs tonight at 6:30pm on MHTV (Comcast Channel 8; Verizon Channel 28).  I'm not usually much for interviews but James did a great job and I hope you enjoy watching this one. This image was captured during the interview.

Abbot Hall and the Scaffolding

This past week, I had visited Abbot Hall and discovered that the red drapery and large M had been removed leaving bare scaffolding in place.  After inquiring, I was told that the clock faces were being installed and that the project was coming to a close. Figured this would be a good time to share one image of the large M that had adorned Abbot Hall tower over the Summer and early Fall.

Foliage at Sunset from Leggs Hill

All images shared this week have come from two very different outings on Sunday, November 2nd.  Monday's came during the first snow of the season but, what followed, was an incredible sunset which always seems to follow such a storm. I shared an image yesterday from Forest River which had been my first destination when the light show began.  Immediately after capturing that image, I drove back up Leggs Hill Road to the parking lot of the YMCA.  Once there, I found that the young trees were still holding onto their leaves which had changed to a bright orange hue.  I [...]

Pink Glow over the Forest River

I last captured an image from this spot over four years ago and had recently used it on the title page of my Wednesdays in Marblehead book.  This past week, I had returned to the spot at dawn to photography the Fall colors I had noted on a recent drive down Leggs Hill Road.  The dawn photoshoot did not pan out and so, when the sunset seemed poised to explode in color on Sunday night, I hurried back to this spot. I arrived just as the pink glow over the Forest River was reaching its peak and captured this image [...]

Foliage in the Snow at Gatchell Park

Though the weather forecasters all predicted cold and a wintry mix for Sunday, November 2nd, I don't think I was the only one surprised when the snow started falling in significant amounts and actually sticking.  The strong winds during the start of the storm made shooting impossible but, around 1pm, the winds died down and the snow started falling more gently.  I grabbed my gear and headed out the door with a few shots in mind. I had continued to scout locations with Fall foliage around Marblehead and drove directly to the first spot only to find visibility impacting the [...]

Happy Halloween from Wednesdays in Marblehead

I have been searching for a house to properly convey the feel of a Marblehead Halloween for what seems like years and had little success until a turn down Birch Street and a look in my rearview mirror was rewarded with this view.  I'm not sure who lives in this house on the corners of Birch Street and Oak Street but the house strikes a perfect balance between daytime enjoyment and evening scares. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!

Hooper to the Harbor

Marblehead Festival of Arts 2015 People's Choice Award Winner During the Summer of 2014, scaffolding went up around St. Michaels' Church as a new steeple was raised on the building.  I managed to make my way to the top of the scaffolding one August evening with the help of a friend and found this incredible view before me. I was struck by the row of houses along Hooper Street near Bank Square and the proximity of Marblehead Harbor (still filled with boats) as well the nearness of Marblehead Neck and the causeway. This view only existed for the briefest moments in [...]

Pink Sunset from Riverhead Beach

I've shared quite a few images from this photo shoot that took place during an unusually low tide on September 9th including having devoted a week to five of my favorites.  I said I wasn't done sharing and, as you can see, there are a few more images in which I was treated to incredible light over both sides of the Marblehead causeway. In this image, I had taken position along the edge of the causeway abutting Riverhead Beach.  The clouds had formed into streaks that reflected the pink colors of sunset over a full harbor with both Abbot Hall [...]
