Fishing off Preston Beach

This day has put me in a monochrome mood and this is a recent favorite in black and white. I was out at Preston beach at the end of May shooting the sunset and some long exposures when I saw this guy make his way out to the edge of the rocks. Rainbow over the Ocean at Devereux Beach

We had a great fast storm roll through on Friday with lightning and rain. I arrived home from work just as the storm passed and ran inside to grab my camera. I headed straight to Devereux hoping to catch a rainbow (though I had my doubts as the sun hadn't yet popped up from behind the clouds). As I drove into the parking lot, this is the sight I beheld. Waves at Devereux Beach (intentional camera movement)

A bit of an abstract image on this dreary morning. I went down to Devereux in mid-May and shot a number of images in the fog. Afterwards, I practiced a bit more with 'intentional camera movement'. I set the shutter speed long enough to be able to sweep the camera horizontally and bring movement to the water. I managed to catch this wave coming to shore with the perfect amount of white foam and nice texture in the distant water.

Riding the Chair Swing at the Devereux Carnival

The carnival has come and gone but not before I managed a few new images of the fun. I had this image in mind as soon as the first postings went up about the carnival coming back to Devereux beach. Unfortunately rain and fog interfered with those plans - that is until the very last day. In the Blue Hour at Devereux Beach

The blue hour (which often lasts minutes rather than a full hour) is found between the darkness of twilight and the light of dawn. It occurs again after sunset but before full dusk. It's a great time to be out shooting and, on this particular day, I had decided to venture down to Devereux beach. Intentional Camera Movement – The Ocean

On the same morning in which I chased an amazing dawn and came away with photos of a lone clammer, I decided to try my hand at a new (for me) technique - intentional camera movement. To do this, I adjusted the settings to get a slightly slow shutter speed and swept the camera across the ocean while 'dragging the shutter'. Clammer in the Water

A late entry this morning and one that complements the image from Monday. After racing to shoot the great colors of dawn and finding someone digging for clams, I kept walking and looking for strong compositions with this guy in the water. When I got behind him and saw this view of a lone person in the vastness of the ocean, I knew I had found what I wanted. The boat in the distance seems to balance the scene perfectly.

I had to get up early on Friday morning for an electronic medical record meeting at a local hospital. As I got dressed and ready for the day, I looked at the window and saw an incredible display of pinks and purples lighting up the sky. Waves coming to shore at Devereux Beach

It felt like the first day of Summer yesterday and a picture of Devereux beach at sunset seemed the perfect choice for today. This was actually taken in early December when sunset's are earlier but tend to be made up for with longer light. The waves were coming to shore with those picture perfect white frothy crests and I timed it so that I caught an incoming wave at its peak. Enjoy and, if the weather holds up, head down to the beach today.

Foggy Sunset over Devereux Beach

November 27th was a special night as far as photography is concerned. It was the night that I captured a couple walking in the fog on the causeway - which has been one of my favorite (and most popular) images on the site*.
