Glowing on the Neck

I mentioned in Monday's post of the sun pillar that I had set out to shoot the sunset after a snowstorm on March 4th and gotten a few nice shots from my perch near the EYC pier. As the sun dipped lower in the sky and under a bank of high clouds, I spotted these houses glowing on the Neck. I quickly moved my tripod over and capture the view of the stately homes on the Neck as well as the Corinthian Yacht Club and Marblehead light all glowing with fresh fallen snow serving to accentuate the colors.

Portrait Mode

On Saturday, I was shooting boats in the harbor with hints of foliage across the water. As the sun began to set, the sky behind the causeway took on interesting shapes and colors and I turned to capture one of the lamp posts along the causeway. I had rented a lens and was putting it through its paces to see if I might want to purchase it. Remembering Castle Rock

As I was looking for a photo to share today, I found this one of Castle Rock captured on a foggy morning in February 2017. That prompted me to check when I last captured an image of these granite shores and pebble beach only to realize I have not shot a single frame at Castle Rock in over a year. It amazes me that in a 4.4 square mile town, I could go a year without shooting this beautiful location and not even realize it. Milky Way over Marblehead Neck

I've tried capturing stars and the Milky Way from within Marblehead a few times over the years but never could get the right mix of perfect conditions, a strong foreground and...aiming the camera in the right direction! Pollen in the Harbor

It's not often that my work as an Allergist syncs with my photography but such was the case on Sunday when I spotted pine pollen in the harbor. Weathered by Time

I captured today's image at the end of June but have been staring at the color version of it for a while wondering why I hadn't bothered to share it. Last week, as I converted another image to black and white, I decided to do the same with this image of a tree weathered by time and flanked by benches on Chandler Hovey Park. The black and white served to accentuate the textures in the tree, bench and sky while helping with the too bright light of this pre-sunset image.

Sunshine and Daydream on a Sunday Afternoon

On Sunday afternoon, I headed out of the house and across the causeway in the hopes of flying my drone over the NOOD race taking place in the waters off Marblehead. Castle Rock at the End of the Rainbow

I have more fireworks and harbor illumination images to share but I thought this was a perfect shot to end the week with. On June 27, Marblehead was hit by two lightning storms and as, one passed and another approached, the sky cleared to allow sunlight and the inevitable rainbow. Coming Ashore in the Fog – Waves at Castle Rock
