Best of Show – Marblehead Festival of Arts 2012

I am thrilled, honored and humbled that the jurors of the 2012 Marblehead Festival of Arts have chosen 'A Walk in the Fog' as Best of Show in photography.  This is an incredible and unexpected honor.  As I sought to show in the two posts from this week, we only moved to Marblehead in May 2008 and I started this project in August 2010.  Here I am a few short years later receiving this incredible honor for one of my images. I will be receiving the award on Friday night outside Abbot and will be sitting at Old Town House [...]

On Hiatus this week

Just a quick note - I am taking this week off from posting photos to the site. I have an individual exhibit in March at the Marblehead Arts Association's Hooper Mansion and am in the process of getting 15 prints ready for that show.  Please save the date - Sunday, March 11th 2-4pm is the opening reception. I also have a number of ideas for shots around town and am taking advantage of the relative quiet of school vacation week to get some of those images.

Gingerbread Lane in the Fog

We've had a fair amount of fog in the past few months and I've been scouting out locations to capture while in the thick of it.  As I drove around one foggy morning, I noticed the rocky wall on Gingerbread lane.  The fog had started to lift and I quickly parked and set up to capture the moody atmosphere before me.  I really liked the green path in the middle of the road and the fallen leaves setting the scene.

The Cul de Sac of Lights

Riverside drive has one of the most incredible light displays I have ever seen.  I made my way to the street in mid December hoping to catch a street without cars and aiming to be there before the caravan of cars made it down.  I was in luck and tried numerous angles to capture the light display but none seemed to capture the magic and awe of the display. I decided that the cul de sac would make for a perfect Holiday Planet and thus shot a 360 degree panorama.  17 shots later, I had my starting material.  I ended [...]

Lamp posts on the causeway

I had to include one more photo from Sunday's photo shoot of fog over the causeway.  While yesterday's image was the one that brought a smile to my face and gave my creativity a big push, this was the image I had envisioned.  For this shot, I waited patiently for cars and pedestrians to pass and tried to keep the photo minimalistic by focusing on the line of lamp posts fading in the distance with the arc of light neatly shown against the thick fog. Don't forget about the Annual Christmas Walk.  I'll be at the Bus Stop on Saturday, [...]

A Foggy Night on the Causeway – Best of Show

Best of Show - Marblehead Festival of Arts 2012 Every once in a while, an opportunity comes along that reignites my creativity and makes me incredibly grateful for having started this photographic project...last night was just such a night.  The weather called for gathering clouds at sunset so I had scratched a planned photoshoot off the night's plans.  When I went out at 4 however, the air felt very humid and I wondered if we might be treated to a foggy night.  I grabbed my camera and tripod and drove down to the causeway to get a better view of [...]

The Trees of Corn Point Road

Here is another image from a mid-Summer fog back in 2008.  After shooting the causeway, I ended up getting lost on Corn Point Road.  I happened upon this row of trees with their branches standing in stark contrast to the bright, thick fog beyond.  I have gone back to this spot on a number of occasions but have never found it to equal the image I captured over three years ago.

A Tug Named Erica

After shooting the sunset over Gerry Island, I made my way by the dry-dock area off Doaks Lane.  I saw this great red tug boat standing there and knew I had to shoot her.  I could make out the name Erica N on the side but could not find any information about the boat.  If anyone knows her history, please let me know in the comments section below.

Play Ball at Seaside Park

I made my way down to Seaside Park on a beautiful Summer Day to try a reshoot of the area behind the stands (that was the 'mystery' shot posted yesterday).  After I finished shooting that area, I made my way to the diamond and stared out from home plate.  The sky and clouds were perfect so I set up for one more picture to capture the feel of getting ready to bat in this beautifully  appointed field.
