Golden Light on Gales Head

In mid-February, I took my Phantom 4 Pro drone to Redd's Pond and explored the area surrounding once overhead. I had previously admired the outcropping of land on which Fort Sewall can be found but seeing it from the air gave it a different perspective. As it turns out, this outcropping is/was known as Gales Head and I was thrilled with the light illuminating that section of land to highlight it in this image. Floating in Darkness

I've captured the small boat in First Harbor with its Christmas trees from many angles and in varying light but as soon as I purchased my drone, I knew of one angle that I couldn't wait to try. In mid-December, I launched the Phantom 4 Pro near the Marblehead Lobster Company and took it to its limit of 400 feet before aiming the camera straight down on this grouping of boats. Sunset on the Neck

Last week I sat for the FAA part 107 certification examination and became a certified pilot of small unmanned aircraft systems (aka drones). Morning Fog at First Harbor

When I woke on Saturday, February 25th and spotted fog outside my window, I quickly pulled up the webcam at First Harbor and saw this view before me. I quickly decided to skip coffee and ran out the door to capture the view of morning fog in First Harbor before the sun burned it away. It was only much later that I realized the fog would win out against the fog for several hours but the scenes I captured on this morning in Marblehead more than made up for a delayed coffee and breakfast.

Browns Island from Doliber’s Cove

My second stop on February 25th was Little Harbor and I couldn't pass up the chance to shoot the sun rising over Brown's Island and reflecting in the waters of Doliber's cove. I shot this scene before capturing the one of the rowboat shared on Tuesday but came back to it after and found a bird had perched on the nearby rock to take in the peaceful scene. I preferred this image with the bird to add a bit of life to the morning view.

Coming Ashore in the Fog – Waves at Castle Rock

Years ago, I was thrilled to be interviewed by the Marblehead Reporter about my photography and was pleasantly surprised at the headline calling me a Fog-tographer. Burning Through the Fog at Little Harbor

One of my first stops on February 25th was Little Harbor and this was my favorite image taken from along Beacon Street. The sun had burned through enough of the fog to allow sunlight to reflect on the still water of the harbor. I composed this shot to include the lone boat moored in First Harbor along Fisherman's Beach and then lucked out when a seagull flew over Brown's Island.

Coastline in the Fog – Wave Foam on the Neck

The Neverending Sunset – Abbot Hall Streaked with Light

This is another image from the incredible sunset of February 18th. I mentioned previously that the sunset seemed to last forever and so, as a child of the 80's, I couldn't help but title it the Neverending Sunset. At this point, the light had left the clouds overhead and become concentrated near the horizon. I zoomed in and composed this image to include Abbot Hall with streaks of light overhead.

Framed by the Pier House

This weekend, frostbite sailing took place in Marblehead harbor under Spring-like conditions and I couldn't pass up the chance to capture images of the sailboats maneuvering inside of the harbor. In between closeups of the boats against familiar backdrops and shots taken by drone, I spotted sailboats passing through the open door of the Eastern Yacht Club pier house.
