Top 10 of 2019 – #1 – Orange Sky over Marblehead Harbor

I hate to follow one sunset shot with another but these did end up being my two favorite images of 2019. Today's shot was captured on September 4th as a storm passed over Marblehead and then the Neck. I had gone out to Crocker Park to chase the clouds and actually had been hoping for a rainbow. Top 10 of 2019 – #4 – Dawn’s Early Light in Marblehead

Another April image (taken two weeks before yesterday's shot of the Jackson Cup) from when I woke up in the pre-dawn hours and headed out to Crocker Park. I really lucked out with the light at dawn and a scene of two boats in their moorings, the expanse of Childrens Island and the lighthouse's green beacon reflecting in the broken stillness of water in the harbor. October Sail into Marblehead Harbor

While I was out shooting from the Neck on Sunday, I kept hoping for something dynamic to break up the otherwise still scene of boats on their moorings. As luck would have it, only 10 minutes after capturing Tuesday's image, this boat came back into Marblehead Harbor after finishing an October sail. I imagine conditions were near perfect with cool, crisp air and a brisk wind. I was thrilled with the sailboat adding that dynamic element and even more so by the clouds shifting and exhibition their own flow in the sky above.

September Sunset over Marblehead Harbor

I'm not quite sure what color I'm looking at in this September sunset over Marblehead harbor. This was the view I had from Crocker Park on September 4th when a storm passed just before sunset and I witnessed a huge orange sky and incredible clouds over the Neck. I had to use my widest lens in a vertical orientation and shoot a multi-image panorama to take in the full scene. First Signs of Fall in Marblehead

Before capturing the moonrise on Sunday night, I had driven across the causeway to capture some interesting clouds over Abbot Hall. I decided to shoot from the float at the end of the Pleon Yacht Club pier and was thrilled to find the first signs of fall in the changing leaves across the harbor. Goodbye Summer

The Crocker Park float was pulled out over the weekend and today marks the last day of summer. Since I just finished going through all of my photos from an outing at Crocker Park on September 4th, I thought I would share this one of the float as the sky began to take on unearthly hues leading up to an incredible orange sky over Marblehead Harbor. Marblehead Rays

September 4th was quite the photo outing with this first stop along Corinthian Lane paving the way for a later outing at Crocker Park that would yield some instant favorite images. Sunset Rainbow over Marblehead Harbor

On any other night, being able to capture a sunset rainbow would have made me giddy and want to rush home to share the image on my site. On this particular night, the sky would end up exploding in color only ten minutes later and this otherwise beautiful view of a rainbow and pink cloud over a full Marblehead Harbor become relegated to the 'to be published' folder. Sunlight on a Full Marblehead Harbor

When I captured this image, I hadn't been out in nearly a month. Orange Sky over Marblehead Harbor

Remember how I was complaining last week about the lack of nice sunsets this summer?
