Three Cherry Blossoms in Marblehead

Yesterday, I shared an image of the far right cherry blossom in full bloom at Harris Street cemetery and mentioned that this is my favorite crop of cherry blossoms in Marblehead.  After capturing that image, I sought out some new compositions that I had not captured the previous year.  This panorama is the result of five images taken in vertical orientation and stitched together.  The final image offers a wonderful perspective on the cherry blossoms and their location in the cemetery as well as offering unrivaled resolution. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful sky to highlight the beauty [...]

The Bench under the Cherry Blossoms at Harris Street Cemetery

Last year, I discovered the three cherry blossom trees at the Harris Street cemetery and happened upon them at peak bloom.  The conditions had been perfect that year and I would end up spending three days capturing the beautiful trees in the early morning and late evening hours. I had mentioned then that cherry blossoms and forever linked to thoughts of Spring from having lived in Washington, DC for several years.  And so, after the incredibly long Winter we just had, I was looking forward to the display of pink flowers at Harris Street cemetery more than ever this year. [...]

New Index Page – and on Hiatus this Week

New Index Page - and on Hiatus this Week For those who haven't visited the website, I made some big changes over the weekend including a new, faster homepage and a brand-new index page.  This page gives you an alphabetical index of all images on the website and makes it very easy to find a specific location, street, store, etc. Give it a try: https://wednesdaysinmhd.com/index-page/ I am taking this week off posts as my website server is undergoing required maintenance on Tuesday and may be down intermittently.  I'll be back with fresh images of Marblehead next week.

The Rocks at Devereux Beach

This image was taken at Devereux Beach on May 4, 2011 - a mere two weeks from today's date.  This cold spell in the midst of Spring has likely kept many from imagining scenes such as this so I thought the view of waves coming up to the rocky shore at Devereux Beach would serve as a nice reminder of days to come.

Abbot Hall from the Cupola of the Jeremiah Lee Mansion

Another entry in the resurrected From the Rooftops Thursday comes from my photo shoot on the morning of April 9.  After capturing the view of Washington Street, Marblehead Harbor and Marblehead Light through the three panes looking to the east, I crossed the small cupola and composed this image. I was thankful that the scaffolding had not yet gone up on Abbot Hall tower and that I could capture this view of the homes along Washington Street leading up toward that iconic structure. Now that the weather is (slowly) warming, I'll be on the hunt for more rooftop views.  If [...]

Marblehead Light

I had a tough time deciding on an image to share today.  The forecast is for 22 degrees and snow to start off this mid-April day which is depressing, frustrating and borderline ridiculous. I couldn't decide between a shot of snow showing that it could be worse or an image of boats in the harbor to get us over this hump in bad weather.  As I scrolled through the archive, I found this simple composition of Marblehead Light and decided it fit well. I've never shared an image of Marblehead Light without incorporating its full structure or at least the [...]

Blue Magic in Marblehead Harbor

At the end of November, I decided to head out at sunset to capture views of the inner harbor from the causeway.  Conditions were cold but calm and the light of the setting sun reflected nicely off the overhead clouds. I found these three working boats perfectly positioned in Marblehead Harbor with Abbot Hall in the distance.  The title was easy given the name of the most prominent boat - Blue Magic.

Keep it Local – Goodbye Candy Pop Sweet Shoppe

After capturing yesterday's image from the top of the Jeremiah Lee Mansion, I walked towards my car and passed the shops lining Washington Street.  As I headed past Candy Pop Sweet Shoppe, I stopped in my tracks at the signage indicating they had permanently closed.  A check on their Facebook page shows the shop is relocating to the Berkshires. This is as good a reminder as any of the importance of 'Keeping it Local' when you are in need of candy, books, toys, clothing, furniture, or any of the many other products and services offered right here in town.  The [...]

From the Rooftops – The Cupola of the Jeremiah Lee Mansion

It's been a while since I last shared an image on 'From the Rooftops Thursday' and thought I would kick things off again with one taken yesterday that I am very proud of. I had been meaning to shoot from the cupola of the Jeremiah Lee Mansion for quite some time but felt that the shot needed to be taken during the Winter parking ban for full effect and without snow on the ground.  Between those requirements and timing, a year and a half passed from my first thoughts of shooting from the top of the Lee Mansion to yesterday's [...]

Fire in the Sky over Devereux Beach

On January 15, a truly breathtaking sunset took shape over the Atlantic ocean and Devereux Beach.  As the sun dropped below the horizon, the sky built up with color and the clouds served to reflect and accentuate the scene making it appear as though there was a fire in the sky. I have shared a wider view of this scene including the causeway and lampposts but had to share this one as well for its powerful colors.
