Marblehead Lighthouse Glowing in the Fog

I mentioned in yesterday's post that thick fog had settled on this Friday night in early December.  One of my first stops was Chandler Hovey Park where I was hoping to capture Marblehead Lighthouse glowing in the fog. I knew that the holiday lights had been set up and were lit but I was really hoping that the bright green beacon atop the light might offer something special with the fog.  One of the greatest qualities of thick fog is that it helps clarify light and, in this case, was able to show the gaps in light where the framing [...]

The Menorah at National Grand Bank

On the fourth night of Hanukkah, I happened to be driving down Pleasant Street and noticed the large menorah in the small park at National Grand Bank.  I happened to have my camera in the car so I quickly pulled into the parking lot and set about figuring out a composition knowing that I wanted to get Abbot Hall in the distance.  I had figured out one possibility and settled on a return visit for the eighth night of Hanukkah which, as luck would have it, would fall on a Wednesday. That Wednesday was also my Open House which I [...]

Santa Claus comes to Marblehead

On Saturday, December 7th as part of the Annual Marblehead Christmas Walk, Santa and Mrs. Claus came to town.  They arrived aboard a lobster boat and stopped for photos prior to making their way up State Street in the annual Christmas Walk parade.  The weather cooperated with fairly mild temps for early December and the coating of snow that had fallen overnight put much of the town in a festive mood.  Turnout was great and my family and I ended up on the corner of State and Washington streets with me hoping for a shot that would include the newly [...]

Snow in Marblehead – Lobster Traps at Sunset

One last image of snow for this week and one more from the Blizzard of 2013 (aka Nemo).  When all was said and done, Nemo had left us with over 2 feet of snow to dig out of.  However, one of the small rewards of these massive storms is that you are almost guaranteed a beautiful sunset when they finally depart.  Such was the case with this nor'easter and I headed across the causeway and onto Ocean Avenue to capture this view of incredible color as the storm ended. As you can see from the waves in the Atlantic and [...]

Snow in Marblehead – Washington Street

Remember Nemo?  The nor'easter also known as the Blizzard of 2013 pummeled us with over two feet of snow in February of this year.  While the snow was an absolute pain to dig out of, it did end up making for some unique images. This image looking down Washington Street gives a sense of the incredible amount of snow that fell during the course of the blizzard.  The gallery below includes other images taken on the same day in February 2013.

Snow in Marblehead – Chandler Hovey Park

Snow week continues on Wednesdays in Marblehead.  Seemed like a good opportunity to bring some of these snow themed images to light as we have yet to experience our first real storm of the Winter season. Today's image is from an early January day in 2010.  We were still relatively new to Marblehead having moved here in May of 2008 and this was only our second Winter.  I had made my way out to Fort Sewall to capture the freshly fallen snow and took this shot exactly one minute after another that I had already shared and which recently was printed [...]

Snow in Marblehead – Little Harbor

I mentioned in yesterday's post the the seasonably cold temperatures had started to put me in the mindset of snow and, having not had any storms to shoot yet, left me to explore the archive of to-be-posted images.  I shared an image from the end of December yesterday.  Today, we turn back to January 16, 2013 when I went out in the middle of a storm to capture the freshly falling flakes. I wound up taking one of my favorite images of Redds pond during this storm - LINK - but also captured a number of other scenes of snow [...]

Snow in Marblehead – The Three Icons

So far, November has been cold (bitterly so at times) but only a few flakes have hit the ground.  With twenty-five unpublished images of snow waiting to be shared, I thought I would take advantage of the seasonably cold weather to show some images of snow from years past. This image was taken on the morning of December 30, 2012.  Our first winter storm had gone through with expectations of 6 inches of snow to fall over the weekend.  We got a little less than that in Marblehead and the crews did a great job of clearing the streets.  I [...]

The Annual Thanksgiving Football Game – Marblehead vs Swampscott

Thanksgiving in Marblehead is an incredible time to get together with family and friends but it is made even more special by the annual Thanksgiving football game between Marblehead and Swampscott.  I headed to the game today with my son and brought along the camera...just in case.  We were standing at the far end zone facing a brisk wind that made it feel like the teens out there.  The reward for braving the cold was that Marblehead was driving toward us in the first quarter.  In the first few minutes of the game, Marblehead's Brooks Tyrrell broke free and ran [...]
