Winter Skyline

By |2020-12-06T22:17:10-05:00December 7th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: |

I missed out on last night's sunset but had this shot from an outing on November 28th that I hadn't shared yet. I had high hopes for this night but the clouds never quite broke the right way. In the end, I had one keeper featuring Marblehead's winter skyline under a soft pink sky. The combination of Abbot Hall, St Michael's steeple, Grace Community Church and that star of the State Street landing makes for quite the familiar skyline during the colder months.

Christmas at Sea Revisited

By |2020-12-05T06:48:43-05:00December 5th, 2020|Categories: Little Harbor|Tags: , , |

On December 9, 2017, I headed down to Little Harbor as the first flakes of snow fell before noon hoping to capture the First Harbor Company's boat and decked out Christmas tree. It was a dark afternoon with little available light due to cloud cover and, when I returned home, I processed my favorite image from the outing true to the conditions of that day.  This image quickly became one of my favorites and resonated with many of you who bought it as prints. It graced my calendar a few years ago as well. A few weeks ago, I was [...]

[sale still going on today so click the link or my profile to visit my site and save 25% off everything] Today was a day to catch up on the last of the orders and, after doing so, I headed out to see if I might be able to capture the nearly full beaver moon rising. From the Scaffolds at Abbot Hall

By |2020-11-22T22:11:24-05:00November 23rd, 2020|Categories: Rooftop|Tags: , , , , |

Almost exactly six years ago, Abbot Hall was in the midst of much needed repairs and I somehow talked my way (with permission) to the top of the scaffolding that surrounded the building. This was before the availability of drones making such shots commonplace. Back then I recall sticking flyers under doors throughout historic downtown Marblehead hoping for a widow's walk or some other vantage point from which to find new compositions of this town. The view from the scaffolds at Abbot Hall did not disappoint - even if the light wasn't ideal. Here you can look down on Washington [...]

November Surf

By |2020-11-18T21:12:16-05:00November 19th, 2020|Categories: Long Exposure|Tags: , , |

Last night I decided to look through all images captured in November that were stuck in my 'to be posted' folder and rediscovered this shot captured on November 18, 2012. I had come away with a couple of keepers from this outing to Devereux Beach on a warm November evening but decided to go with another image over this long exposure shot at the time. I decided to reset and start over in processing this shot captured over 1/4 of a second with a small aperture to capture the movement of the November surf pulling back from shore into the [...]

Between the Pylons

By |2020-11-17T22:50:22-05:00November 18th, 2020|Categories: Snow|Tags: , , , |

And this was the view looking to the left from my spot along Foster Street from the night of October 30th. I normally would compose the image to focus on Abbot Hall and the distant skyline but noticed that the sunset was perfectly reflecting off the water between the pylons of the Pleon pier. I times this shot to capture the white surf in the foreground and pink-red hue of sunset light reflecting. The focal point quickly shifted to the pier and Abbot Hall and the distant houses fell into the backdrop.

A Coating on the Corinthian

By |2020-11-16T22:23:34-05:00November 17th, 2020|Categories: Snow|Tags: , , , |

On October 30th, after more than the expected amount of snow fell in Marblehead, I headed out in the hopes of a nice sunset. I decided to shoot from along Foster Street and took turns with compositions of Abbot Hall and the harbor to the left with others of the Corinthian and Marblehead Light to the right. Here the coating of snow on the roof of the Corinthian added a bit of contrast to the building with Marblehead Light's green beacon shining at a more reasonable 5:35pm sunset all while the sky behind turned into shades of pink.
