Here is another photo from the archive as we await the first real snow of the season. We had a fair amount of the fluffy stuff fall in 2009. This was taken in January shortly after we moved to town. I was still finding my way around and passed this scene on a drive home from old town. I stopped and grabbed my gear to capture little harbor and Brown's/Crowninshield island with wet snow clinging to the branches.
Walking across from Brown's Island to the mainland in late August, I turned and noticed this great scene before me. A single boat in Little Harbor with a beautiful house lying beyond and the perfect clouds above. I keep saying it but we really do live in an incredibly picturesque town!
After shooting the sunset over Gerry Island, I made my way by the dry-dock area off Doaks Lane. I saw this great red tug boat standing there and knew I had to shoot her. I could make out the name Erica N on the side but could not find any information about the boat. If anyone knows her history, please let me know in the comments section below.
After walking up the hill and reaching the top of the rocky section on Crowninshield Island, my daughter and I descended and reached an area with a small tide pool. Looking up, I saw this incredible view of town looking back through Little Harbor at some colorful houses and Abbot Hall in the distance. As it was low tide, the path to Gerry Island had appeared and, if you look closely, you'll see two people walking along. They add a nice sense of perspective to the scene.
The Sturgeon Moon rises in August and I hoped to catch it on this night from a vantage point at Fountain Park. As I waited, I tried to find a composition that would include the lighthouse and Little Harbor. I was pleased to find this angle and even more so when a pair of kayakers paddled into the foreground. The moon ended up rising a bit early so that it's color lacked the vibrant yellow that came with the moonrise the next night. I was happy with the way this sunset view turned out.
As mentioned on Monday's post, here is a panorama of Gerry and Brown's Island at sunset with an added view of the homes along Front Street. At low tide, this path emerges from the water and allows for passage to the island.
With Gerry Island in the news recently [Reporter Patch], it seemed an appropriate time to post this shot taken a few weeks ago. I had wanted to return to Fort Sewall and shoot this image of Gerry Island for a while but was struggling with getting the mood just right. The way the fog rolled in and blanketed the island on this day seemed just about perfect. Haven't had a chance to post this week. Have been working on some shots of Ware and Oliver ponds but they aren't quite ready yet. So I figured I would go to a shot from the week prior when I drove by little harbor on the way to Waterside Cemetery in hopes of finding some foliage. I had to stop when I saw this scene before me.
