Hunters Moon from Crocker Park

In a few days, the full Hunters moon will rise. As I was looking for an image to share from my 'to be posted' archive, I happened upon this view of the Hunters moon rising over the Corinthian Yacht Club from the vantage point of Crocker Park. When I shot this scene in 2016, I ended up really liking the image captured 6 minutes earlier when the moon crested over the CYC. I shared that one the same night and left this one for a later date. As the moon rose and the light faded, I had to decide on [...]

Waiting for Nights Like This

Sorry for the lack of images last week - I was in Los Angeles with my kids visiting my parents and sister for Rosh Hashanah and then drove down to New York with my son for a Bar Mitzvah this past weekend. Between work, life and the odd fall season, I haven't had a chance to shoot anything new in the past few weeks. The fall season seems to be off to an odd start with many trees around town already changed and having dropped their foliage. Meanwhile, peak foliage season should still be a few weeks away. I decided [...]

Fluen Point

One of the first things I did with my drone was explore some favorite spots around town from vantage points of 100 to 400 feet in the air. Once I grew accustomed to those views, I sought out other areas in Marblehead that had escaped my ability to capture from the ground. On this particular early evening on August 6, 2017, I had flown up over Beacon Street to capture views of Black Joes Pond and Doliber Cove only to then turn the drone and find this view of Fluen Point laid out before me. With boats moored in the [...]

Seaside Foliage

We are only a few days into the fall season but the warm weather has me concerned about foliage displays this year. I've already driven by this maple at Seaside park and noticed its leaves turning and beginning to fall but in more of a piecemeal fashion than past year's all-at-once displays. The same can be said for other spots around town but, hopefully, this is not going to be true of the entire season. If you would like to get an early peak at fall, stop along Atlantic Avenue for some Seaside foliage. Otherwise, maybe we should enjoy the [...]

Flying Colors in Harbor

On July 19th, we were invited aboard a friend's boat to circumnavigate Marblehead Harbor. I was like a kid in a candy store taking shot after shot from the vantage point along the water and between boats. We moved to quickly for me to spot the names of the various boats and it was only when I zoomed in on this one that I spotted the name of the boat with the flag flying - Flying Colors. With the composition of boats filling the empty parts of the sky and wispy clouds overhead due to the heat of the day, [...]

Goodbye Summer

The Crocker Park float was pulled out over the weekend and today marks the last day of summer. Since I just finished going through all of my photos from an outing at Crocker Park on September 4th, I thought I would share this one of the float as the sky began to take on unearthly hues leading up to an incredible orange sky over Marblehead Harbor. This photo seemed a perfect way to say 'goodbye summer'. I've started to notice leaves changing colors throughout town but, with the incredible warm and dry weather, the displays appear fairly muted so far. [...]

Nightcap at Crocker Park

On September 4th, an orange sky exploded over Marblehead harbor and I was fortunate to have chased the clouds to Crocker Park for a front row seat to the show. I shared a panorama from that night but hadn't looked back at other shots captured during the 30 minutes spent exploring other compositions. This shot came about as the last of the evening color washed over the crescent moon and created a perfect nightcap on what was a very enjoyable photography outing at Crocker Park.

30 Minute Tie Up

It seems like forever ago but on July 19th I was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to witness and capture a spectacular sunset over Salem harbor. I shared one panoramic shot that took in the full scene as soon as I came home but this view has sat in the 'to be published' folder until now. I struggled with a title and ended up zooming in the signage of the Richard H Rockett Landing to settle on '30 Minute Tie up'. Hopefully the image makes up for the boring title...

Blue Hour in Mid-Harbor

On September 2nd, I chased some promising clouds out to Ferry Lane but the promised lightning show never materialized. Instead, I decided to find some interesting compositions in the blue hour shortly after sunset. I took advantage of the clouds and still conditions to capture this view at mid-harbor of boats filling every mooring and the Eastern Yacht Club shining across the water.
