Cliff Jumping at Crocker Park

It was hot the first week in July and, as I made my way around town on a Wednesday, I figured I would shoot some kids diving off the floating dock at Crocker park.  I made my way down there but saw little to shoot until I turned around saw a group that was taking advantage of the high tide by diving off the cliff.  I climbed back up the stairs, introduced myself, and proceeded to shoot as they jumped in one after another.  This was my favorite shot of the series - a single jumper caught in mid stride [...]

Keep it Local – The Hurricane

By |2016-11-06T12:06:29-05:00July 29th, 2011|Categories: Keep it Local|Tags: , , |

Continuing with the Friday focus on local businesses, here is The Hurricane.  I had tried to shoot the Hurricane once before but it didn't come out quite right.  When I walked by on a warm Summer day and saw the doors and windows open, I knew I had my opportunity to get the image I had wanted.  Those open doors seem to beckon you to come inside, have a seat, grab a beer and enjoy a Red Sox game... The Hurricane is located at 259 Washington Street at Five Corners

The Hydrangeas on Peabody Lane

By |2016-11-06T12:06:29-05:00July 27th, 2011|Categories: Public Way|Tags: , , , , |

I was out over the Fourth of July weekend scouting locations to shoot from and decided to stop at each of the public right-of-ways that dot the Neck.  I immediately noticed the beautiful hydrangeas in full bloom at this house on Peabody lane and made a note to return.  The next morning I arrived as the sun rose above the trees and produced great dappled light to highlight a few of the beautiful blue flowers.  I later found out this was one of the gardens featured in the recent Garden tour of the Neck. Below is another view - this [...]

Marblehead or the Real World

By |2016-11-06T12:06:29-05:00July 25th, 2011|Categories: Island|Tags: , , , , |

I've driven by this spot on Beacon Street numerous times and admired the beautiful house on the bend with impeccable landscaping.  I never did read the sign placed on the fence that reads 'Marblehead' with an arrow toward Crowninshield's or Brown's Island and old town and another pointing back toward West Shore Drive labeled as the 'Real World'.  The sign produced an instant grin on my face and a desire to photograph it. The hard part was how to bring out the sign in the photo and depict what it was trying to say.  I decided to shoot at sunset [...]

Last of the Lifeguard Chairs on Devereux Beach

By |2016-11-06T12:06:29-05:00July 22nd, 2011|Categories: Beach|Tags: , , , |

Finding these lifeguard chairs on Devereux beach last week was a very pleasant surprise.  Having great light to work with as I sought out to capture them was an even better one.  Thank you for your comments here and on the Facebook page.  I really appreciate it.  Here are the last two images from the series.

The Fly-By at Sunset – Devereux beach

So this is my favorite shot from the 'study' of the newly painted lifeguard chairs at devereux beach.  The sun was still high enough in the sky to paint the back of the chair with a rich red.  This was one of a number of attempts to catch a seagull in the frame and I couldn't have asked for better placement.  Note that no food or photoshop was used to lure/place the seagull in its rightful location.

The Lifeguard Chair – Sunstar and Volleyball net

Here is another shot from Saturday night's study of the newly painted lifeguard chairs.  This was the only shot I had planned for the outing.  I had originally hoped for a sunrise sunstar but realized the angles were never going to work.  Instead I managed to capture the sun setting against the leg of the lifeguard chair while the volleyball net stands ready and Lime Rickey's does a brisk Summer business.

The Lifeguard Chair at Sunset

This weekend I noticed that the normally white lifeguard chairs at Devereux beach had been painted red with an added Red Cross behind them.  I made a note to come back and shoot them and was fortunate to have time on Saturday night to do so.  Even better were the colors of sunset that added a beautiful pink hue to the clouds over the ocean.  I have a number of favorite shots from this night and will be posting more this week. I am now on Google+ so, if you are on there as well, please add me to one [...]

Keep it Local – Becky’s Gourmet

By |2016-11-06T12:06:29-05:00July 15th, 2011|Categories: Keep it Local|Tags: , , , |

I stopped in at Becky's Gourmet a few weeks ago craving something for lunch and noted the beautiful flowers outside the store and another display on the interior.  I decided that this would make a great entry in the series looking at local businesses.  Becky's offers a really nice selection of fresh fruits/vegetables as well as baked goods.  She also carries meat from Danver's butcherie.  That day I decided to try the gazpacho which is really good - perfect amount of spice and nice texture from the cuts of tomatoes and other vegetables. Stop in for yourself at 10 Bessom [...]
