Christmas at Sea

By |2017-12-09T14:27:10-05:00December 9th, 2017|Categories: Snow|Tags: , , , , |

What an absolutely picture-perfect first snow of the season!  Once the flakes started falling at 11am, I headed out of the house to capture some scenes around town with freshly falling snow.  My first stop was Little Harbor and a favorite tree floating in the waters just off shore. I parked in front of the Marblehead Lobster Company and headed down to the water's edge from where I played with compositions as this small boat with its beautifully decorated tree floated gently amid the fresh fallen snow.  As the boat turned towards me, the starfish above was displayed and a [...]

Welcome to the Neck

The Mathers family recently moved to this beautiful house on Marblehead Neck where the causeway splits into a Y.  As the calendar turned to December, they hired a local landscaper to decorate their grand tree and serve as a welcome to drivers crossing the causeway onto the Neck. I first heard about the tree before actually seeing it because the Mathers family were sent a letter disparaging the holiday display.  With the community offering their support of the family and their grand tree, I had to see it for myself. I drove home from work tonight and headed directly across [...]

Marching to the Beat on State Street

By |2017-12-04T21:22:30-05:00December 6th, 2017|Categories: Traditions|Tags: , , , |

Another incredible Marblehead Christmas Walk is in the books and, as has been the case for the past few years, I set up along State Street to capture Glover's Regiment leading the annual parade.  This year I decided to bring along a single 35mm lens and set it to its widest aperture in the hopes of focusing on just one part of the parade.  As luck would have it, the drummer was on my side of the street and I captured this image of him drumming while the rest of the regiment was marching to the beat on State Street.

The Lobster Trap Tree

By |2017-12-04T21:15:46-05:00December 5th, 2017|Categories: Old Town|Tags: , , |

On Saturday morning, I drove my daughter to the State Street landing where she met with her fourth grade Marblehead Cheerleading team to take part in the annual Christmas Walk parade.  I had missed out on shooting the festivities earlier in the day when Santa arrived by boat and was surprised to see a lobster trap tree built up on one of the sections leading toward the water. I don't recall seeing a lobster trap tree here in years past and wondered if it might be a new addition to this town's traditional parade and other downtown festivities.  As it [...]

Cloudy with a Chance of Moonrise

By |2017-12-03T18:36:51-05:00December 3rd, 2017|Categories: moon|Tags: , , , , |

For the second night in a row, I headed out hoping to capture the full moon.  Last night offered the better timing of the nearly full moon but, as luck would have it, dense clouds spoiled any view of the moon.  I returned to the same spot tonight and set up with two cameras as I test out the Sony a7rII eyeing a possible switch from the Canon system I have been using for the past 12 years. I set up both cameras with the longest lenses I had and composed this image only to then sit and wait and [...]

November Sunset at Crocker Park

By |2017-11-29T21:48:04-05:00November 30th, 2017|Categories: Park|Tags: , , , |

Last night, I watched the clouds take shape over Marblehead and decided to head out just before sunset to capture what promised to be a good show.  I had a tough time deciding on a destination and ended up at the Landing.  I shot from near the Harbormaster's station until the light began to fade over the harbor and looked over my shoulder only to find an explosion of color over Crocker Park. I ran up Mariner Lane, across Front Street and then behind the Herreschoff Castle to reach my favorite spot at Crocker Park.  I quickly set up the [...]

2018 Marblehead Calendars nearly Sold Out

By |2017-11-29T08:02:48-05:00November 29th, 2017|Categories: Uncategorized|

Only 19 calendars are left. I have my calendars made at a quality printer so that they have all the characteristics of store bought ones - saddle stitching, thick paper, protective sleeve.  But that means I need to order them in advance.  This year I ran out of the first batch before Black Friday and ordered a second print run.  With the holidays quickly approaching, I am down to 19 calendars as of November 29 at 7:45am. Last year I had some disappointed emails from folks who missed out on the calendars.  This is the last chance to get a [...]

Thanksgiving Football in Marblehead

By |2017-11-27T22:08:01-05:00November 28th, 2017|Categories: Aerial|Tags: , , , |

One of my favorite Marblehead traditions is the annual Thanksgiving football game pitting Marblehead against Swampscott.  I've attended every game with my son since moving here in 2008 and have captured a few photos of the action on the field in years past.  As I left the house for the game this year, I made sure to pack the drone as the weather conditions seemed perfect. We arrived and watched the game unfold with Swampscott taking an early lead only to watch as the Marblehead Magicians clawed their way back and then sprinted ahead for good.  At half time, I [...]

Giving Thanks and Free Wallpapers

Each year on Thanksgiving, I like to look back and give thanks for the support of those who see and interact with my images on my website and various social media locations.  I started Wednesdays in Marblehead in August 2010 as a personal project to learn more about my new town.  I still remember those early days when I would post an image to the website and wonder if anyone would ever see it.  After seven years and over 1,800 images shared, I’m humbled that so many have connected with these photos of Marblehead and the beauty to be [...]
