Once in a Blue Moon

I headed out last night in hopes of capturing a nice full moon rising over Marblehead harbor. I had tried to decide where to shoot from and ended up at Lovis Cove with a borrowed super telephoto lens on a cloudless night. The Strawberry Supermoon Rises Over Tinker’s Island

This weekend's Strawberry Moon (aka Rose Moon, Flower Moon) was also designated as the Supermoon marking the closest that the moon would come to Earth in all of 2013. This particular supermoon would appear to be the largest full moon of the year owing to its proximity to Earth. With that in mind, I scouted out the moonrise and moonset beginning on Saturday night. A Blue Moon Over Marblehead Lighthouse

I missed out on shooting May's full moon and, when trying to decide on a photo to share today, came across this one from August of the rare blue moon. The blue moon is the name given to the second full moon in a given month. On August 30th, 2012, this one rose under perfect conditions. The Full Pink Moon Rises Over the Harbor

On April 25th, the Pink Moon was due to rise and I made plans to try to capture it. I use a program called TPE (the photographer's ephemeris) to plan out the location of moon rise, moon set, sunrise and sunsets. Cherry Blossoms Start to Bloom Under the Half Moon

Following up on yesterday's image with a half moon, I decided to share this one of my favorite tree in town starting to bloom. If you can believe it, this photo was taken on March 31, 2012. Last I checked this tree, it was still far from blooming. I had wanted to capture the details in the branch and the blossoms in their varied stages of blossoming. Commercial Street Dock Under the Half Moon

On Wednesday, April 3rd, I awoke before the sun rose and headed out in search of good light. I ended up at Hammond Park and shared an image from there last week. After that image, I kept looking for new and different compositions and happened upon this one. Worm Moon Rises Over Marblehead Neck

On the same night that I captured Monday's image of the frozen harbor at sunset, I also managed this image of the full Worm moon rising over Marblehead Neck. The Harvest Moon Rises over Marblehead Harbor

I had little hope for capturing this year's Harvest moon. The thick clouds these past few days and today's rain made me think that this year's attempt would be a wash...literally. The Blue Moon and the Lamp Post

I shared a photo of the blue moon on Friday that was taken on August 30th. Turns out the moon turned full the next morning so I had one more shot at getting a photo of the rising moon the next evening.
