Fiery Tendrils Reach Out at Devereux Beach

I mentioned in yesterday's post that I had gone out on Sunday to shoot the sunset before capturing the image of the lighthouse dressed up for the season. I had driven to Devereux beach in the hopes that the clouds would break just enough for a nice sunset. Experimental Friday – The Swing

A very simple composition for today's Experimental Friday entry. I was shooting at sunset in early June when I walked back to my car, stopped and looked back over my shoulder. The 'good' light had faded but I couldn't help return and shoot this swing as it 'rested' in the air. I angled the camera very low to get only sky in the background.

November Sunset over Devereux Beach

Here is another image taken this past Sunday when all the elements seemed to line up to offer a great Fall sunset. As the clouds developed overhead, I made my way down to Devereux beach and set about exploring the light and movement of the ocean. I noted that, since Superstorm Sandy came and went, the sand seemed much finer and lacking the rocks that had always characterized this stretch of beach. Tonight’s Sunset over the Causeway

For the first night in what seems like forever, the conditions seemed right for a solid sunset. There were nice clouds in the sky, it wasn't bitterly cold out and I was free to shoot (not stuck at work watching as the sky exploded in different colors). Hurricane Sandy Hits Marblehead

Hurricane Sandy came to Marblehead today and brought with her incredible winds and waves. I managed to drive out during my lunch hour and hit Surf Street then Devereux beach followed by some time spent catching waves crash on to and over the causeway. It was incredible to witness and capture the strength of this storm as it hit. Hope you enjoy this look at the power of Hurricane Sandy.

Blue Dawn on Devereux Beach

I have to admit that it took me a minute to remember where I took this image when I looked through the archives for today's post. This was taken in early May during the blue hour that precedes the dawn. With the incredibly low tide and some leftover moisture on the sand, Devereux beach took on a great mirrored appearance. Rainbows over Devereux Beach

I'm fairly certain that I did not have a single rainbow image in the first three summers of living in Marblehead. All of a sudden, I find myself with so many I have to include two in this one post! Devereux Beach Silhouettes

July 3rd was a very productive day in hindsight. I used the day to scout out locations for shooting the fireworks the following day. As part of that scouting mission, I biked to the causeway and tried to figure out compositions using my longest lens. The Lifeguard Chair and the Rainbow

Devereux beach was my first stop after Saturday's storm passed and the sun dipped below the clouds. As I arrived, I saw this rainbow in the distance and noted that the lifeguard chairs were back.
