Out for a swim in a foggy harbor

Another image from that thick foggy Summer day back in 2008. It's amazing what you can find when leafing through old photos. I had remembered the causeway shot as a favorite but then explored others I had taken that day as I walked around our new hometown (we had moved here about 6 weeks earlier). The Trees of Corn Point Road

Here is another image from a mid-Summer fog back in 2008. After shooting the causeway, I ended up getting lost on Corn Point Road. I happened upon this row of trees with their branches standing in stark contrast to the bright, thick fog beyond. I have gone back to this spot on a number of occasions but have never found it to equal the image I captured over three years ago.

A New Causeway Draped in Fog

We moved to Marblehead in May 2008 and I was still learning about the town when a heavy bank of fog hit at the end of June. There was a lot to explore but, thankfully, the causeway ended up on that list. I didn't realize it at the time but the causeway had only recently completed renovations and, as you can see, the asphalt was still pristine. Alone in the Fog

It seems like we have had more foggy days this year than every before. During a particularly long stretch in May, I ventured down to the water to try to capture the few boats already in the harbor amidst the dense fog. This boat struck me for its bright blue and the lack of any other boats around it. It seemed quite lonely yet peaceful in that one spot. The Privateer Lynx comes to town

This week saw the Lynx come to town. The Lynx is a tall ship inspired by one that fought in the war of 1812. She came to Marblehead harbor on a foggy Wednesday afternoon and was greeted by a throng of spectators watching from Fort Sewall as well as wind and rain. She fired off six cannon shots as she made her way to the harbor in response to rifle fire from the Marblehead regiment. Island in the Fog

With Gerry Island in the news recently [Reporter Patch], it seemed an appropriate time to post this shot taken a few weeks ago. I had wanted to return to Fort Sewall and shoot this image of Gerry Island for a while but was struggling with getting the mood just right. The way the fog rolled in and blanketed the island on this day seemed just about perfect. Storm in the Harbor

We've had three days of nonstop rain that left us with a surf advisory today. There was a short letup of the rain just as high tide approached and I made my way down to Front Street to see if I could capture the power of the storm using the background of Marblehead harbor. The initial shot was a bit flat due to the lighting conditions so this is a tonemapped version of my favorite shot from the excursion. Technical: Canon 50D and EF-S 17-55/2.8 IS lens. Foggy Morning over Salem Harbor

So technically this is just on the outskirts of Marblehead as you cross into Salem. I had been meaning to capture this area for a while but could never get all the elements in place…until today.
