Golden Light on Devereux Beach

Back to Saturday night's outing with my son for this image of golden light on Devereux Beach. This was the sight that awaited me as we pulled into the nearly empty lot at Devereux Beach on December 13. I quickly headed down to the water's edge where I set up this composition and shot as wave after wave came to shore. At this point the sun had just dipped behind the distant houses and the clouds above took on a golden glow that reflected on the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

A Picture Perfect Sunset

On Saturday evening, I picked up me son from a playdate and noted the cloud cover as we drove home. The day had brought with it a break from the dull gray skies that had covered Marblehead for what seemed like weeks and the clouds now seemed to be breaking up in time for sunset. Explosion of Color in Marblehead Harbor

Summer sunsets have to be one of my favorite subjects to photograph. Heading out on a warm evening chasing after whisps of clouds and waiting for each evening's show brings a sense of anticipation that is usually well rewarded. On this evening in June, there was an explosion of color in Marblehead Harbor with the sky above moving through shades of pinks and purples that lasted for what felt like an eternity. Golden Light over Marblehead Harbor

This image comes from the end of July and some incredible clouds that formed over Marblehead Harbor. Striking Sunset from Bass Rock Lane

This image from the rocks at the end of Bass Rock Lane was captured in mid-October. I had gone out with some ideas in mind for this shoot and had also brought along my new iPhone 6 to try out its time-lapse mode. I set up the phone and proceeded to scamper around the rocks looking for strong compositions including this one with the setting sun and houses along the Atlantic Ocean. I shared the time-lapse that evening but hadn't had a chance to share this image until today.

Setting Sun over Devereux Beach

On Wednesday, November 12, Spring-like weather replaced the freezing cold with temperatures hitting the high-50s. I decided to head down to Devereux Beach at sunset and see if the conditions might make for a nice sunset. Before the sun set (an image I posted shortly after I captured it), I was treated to this view of a large sun whose light was diffused by haze. I set the exposure and aperture such that the sun would become a large and bright ball in the evening sky and timed this image to capture the soft waves coming to shore.

Thankful to Live in such a Beautiful Town

With Thanksgiving upon us, it is time to give thanks. Wednesdays in Marblehead began in August 2010 as a personal project through which I hoped to learn more about this town that we had recently moved to. From the start and to this day, I have taken images for myself. Every single photo captures a moment in which I went out in search of something new to explore in this relatively small town. Last Night from Atop the Causeway

As the clouds built on Sunday, I started to wonder if we might be in store for another nice sunset. With that in mind, I headed out of the house a little after 3 looking for a good vantage point. I stopped at a few spots that didn't quite pan out before heading to Devereux Beach and atop the causeway. From this position, I was able to shoot across the causeway looking out at Marblehead Harbor and quickly swing around to capture the sunset over Devereux Beach. Abbot Hall and the Herreshoff Castle

Finishing off the week with this image from an incredible sunset captured in late August from Crocker Park. I've shared a few shots from this night before but, at this point, had stepped back to near the entrance to the park in order to include both Abbot Hall (with its scaffolding and large M) as well as the Herreshoff Castle. November Sunset Reflecting on Devereux Beach

It had been ten days since I had last headed out for a photo shoot in Marblehead when the opportunity came for an outing at sunset on Wednesday, November 12. Fog had enveloped Marblehead for much of the day and finally broke around 3 pm. I headed down to Devereux beach hoping that sunset's colors would reflect off the remaining fog. That plan didn't quite work out but I was treated to a nice sunset instead. I tried to time this image to capture the November sunset reflecting off the wet sand at Devereux Beach in this moment between waves.
