Since we are solidly in 'stick season', I decided to dive into the archive of images waiting to be shared. For this week, I will be posting images that were taken from unique vantage points and will leave it to you to guess where the image was taken. Answers are in the original post. All images shared this week have come from two very different outings on Sunday, November 2nd. Monday's came during the first snow of the season but, what followed, was an incredible sunset which always seems to follow such a storm. I shared an image yesterday from Forest River which had been my first destination when the light show began. I last captured an image from this spot over four years ago and had recently used it on the title page of my Wednesdays in Marblehead book. This past week, I had returned to the spot at dawn to photography the Fall colors I had noted on a recent drive down Leggs Hill Road. I've shared quite a few images from this photo shoot that took place during an unusually low tide on September 9th including having devoted a week to five of my favorites. I said I wasn't done sharing and, as you can see, there are a few more images in which I was treated to incredible light over both sides of the Marblehead causeway. On Tuesday, October 14, I had made the decision to head out for a sunset shoot and chose Marblehead Neck as my destination. It had been a while since I had explored one of the public ways on the Neck in particular and so I drove down to Harvard Street and then down to the water's edge. Back to the photo shoot on September 28 after yesterday's brief hiatus to capture scenes of Vermont's foliage. I explained in Monday and Tuesday's posts that I had gone out on Sunday to capture views of our Indian Summer. Well, after shooting around Little Harbor, I had made my way to Corinthian Lane hoping for a nice sunset. This past Summer in Marblehead has to rank among the most perfect (weather wise) in a very long time. We had a mild June and July followed by a blast of heat and humidity at the end of August/early September and then the cool (but not too cold) days of late Summer/early Fall came. This weekend, though, brought back the warmth and humidity to stave off that Autumn and soon-to-be Winter chill for at least a few more days. The series of six images captured during an incredibly low tide in Marblehead comes to a close with this final shot. I was in awe of the smooth sand at Devereux Beach that resulted from the astronomically low tide (-1.5 feet). After capturing the pink sky in the other direction, I turned toward the setting sun and the beautiful light that still glowed strong in the early evening. The sky was erupting in pink at this point so, as soon as I finished capturing yesterday's image (had to wait for a break in traffic), I turned my attention back to Devereux Beach. The smooth sand and water were doing wonders at reflecting the pink sky over Devereux Beach and I found this composition perfectly captured the feel of awe and wonder I felt standing on the causeway. I bet most 'Headers would be hard pressed to identify this sandy beach as Devereux (though the houses along the Neck in the distance give it away). It's so refreshing to [...]
With images of Devereux Beach at low tide captured, I walked back up to (and on top of) the causeway. I started taking photos of those same golden clouds from yesterday's image and was reasonably happy with the results. Then, as the sun dipped below the horizon, the colors in the sky began to change to pink and a perfect cloud formed directly over Marblehead Neck with the causeway forming a beautiful leading line directly into it.
