That Old Tree

Look what I found when digging through unpublished images from past Junes - that old tree at the Fort! At the time I didn't think much of this shot with a simple composition split between the tree and a solitary sailboat on its mooring. At the time, I was using the tree to help balance the focal point of the sailboat. Now, seven years after the image was taken in June 12, 2013, the view of the Giving Tree with its full canopy steals the eye and is a wonderful reminder of the majesty of this now lost symbol.

Fort Sunrise

I hadn't been back to Fort Sewall since the day after the storm that took down large pieces of what I affectionately called the Giving Tree. Marblehead’s Giving Tree at Fort Sewall

Since moving to Marblehead in 2008, I must have made the drive up Front Street toward Fort Sewall hundreds of times. Last night as I drove up, I felt like I had been punched in the gut - the tree at the edge of the Fort was broken. Moon over Fort Sewall

One more shot of the full moon that rose on the first day of Spring. I had decided to shoot the moonrise from Fort Sewall and was really hoping it would appear low on the horizon to frame it behind Childrens Island. Epiphany Tree Burning – Tonight at Riverhead Beach

The annual Marblehead Epiphany tree burning is tonight at Riverhead Beach. The tradition of lighting collected Christmas trees resumed in 2016 and has been taking place on January 6th every year since (with the one exception last year when it was delayed 2 days due to arctic cold - remember that?) Christmas Moon

I had been planning this shot of a Christmas moon for nearly a year and everything came together perfectly tonight to capture the view of the full cold moon rising above this Christmas tree at Doliber Cove. The planning began last December when I spotted this perfectly lit tree at the end of the pier on Doliber Cove. Waterside Foliage

It's been a while since I actually went out on a Wednesday in Marblehead to capture images around town. The name of the site got its name from my day off of my 'real' job but I tended to shoot whenever the light was good and it worked out between the home and work schedule. Over the Chestnut Tree at Crocker Park

Since discovering the beauty of the chestnut tree at Crocker Park when it hits peak bloom, I've tried to find new vantage points from which to capture it. On a late May evening, I flew my drone over Crocker Park just as the sunset hit its peak to capture this view of the chestnut tree and the Marblehead skyline illuminated by the pinks and blues of a spring sunset.

Pink Rainbow and the Chestnut Tree

On May 23rd, I visited Crocker Park in the hopes of finding a new composition for the chestnut tree that had reached full bloom. As luck would have it, a storm passed over the park just before sunset and led to this pink rainbow forming over Marblehead Neck. The Chestnut Tree

In May 2016, I happened to go to Crocker Park one evening and found the large chestnut tree there to be in full bloom. I had never seen these flowers before and captured them on a few evenings in varying light and with different compositions. This is the last one I had in the 'to be posted' file. Guess I'll have to visit again in the next few days to see if it has blossomed.
