Rusted Rail on Gerry Island

On July 18, 2015 I walked across the low tide land bridge to Gerry Island and explored the rocky edges as the sun slowly set. I stopped at this rusted rail that appeared to have broken off and fallen. I imagine it once helped mark a path around the island but had fallen from a Nor'Easter long since forgotten.

Bridge over the Trail – Infrared Black and White

In 2014, I had my older Canon camera modified to allow me to capture images in infrared. On June 15, 2014, I decided to bike the rail trail looking for images to capture as the infrared filter makes foliage a bright white and turns blue skies nearly black. I stopped at this fork in the road with the uphill path to the left leading up to Village street and the bridge beyond showing that road.

Quiet Reflections at Redd’s Pond

I shared images from 2011 to 2013 last week and thought I would move forward to the 2014-2015 'To be Published' folder for the next two week. Today's image was captured on July 21, 2014 at just before 7pm when a soft fog created a perfect mood for quiet reflections at Redd's Pond.

Inner Harbor

On July 3rd, 2013, I made my way to Crocker Park to scout out the location for capturing the fireworks show that would follow the next night. I lucked out with cumulous clouds over the Neck and causeway and captured several images of a full Marblehead harbor with boats lit by the 4pm sun and clouds breaking up the sky overhead. I struggled in coming up with the proper term for this part of the harbor. Thanks to Erin Noonan on my Facebook Page for suggesting 'Inner Harbor'.

Sea Level

Today's image was captured on July 16, 2013 when a friend invited me on a boat ride around Marblehead near sunset. At this point we were coming back into Marblehead harbor. I looked up at Marblehead Light and composed this image from sea level taking in all of Chandler Hovey park and its reflection in the calm waters.

Year of Rainbows

I think I captured more rainbows in 2012 than I have in all other years combined. This was truly the 'year of rainbows' in Marblehead and, on this particular evening - June 23, 2012 - I headed to Devereux Beach after a brief shower. The lifeguard chairs had recently been painted red and I decided to compose this shot of the red lifeguard chair lit by the setting sun and the rainbow perfectly formed at its feet.

Aglow at Old Burial Hill

I spent a rainy Sunday looking through my oldest images in my To Be Published folder and decided to share some from 2011 to 2013 this week.  This image was captured on July 21, 2104 when I headed to Old Burial Hill as fog rolled into Marblehead and the sun descended in the sky. The backlit fog set Old Burial Hill aglow in beautiful light.

Looking Back at Doaks Lane

On August 17, 2015, I made my way onto Gerry Island before sunset using the low tide path to cross. I had this particular image in mind and hoped for a nice sunset but had to make due with a single cloud in the sky and soft light. The compressed view of the stacked houses and Old North Church made up for the somewhat lackluster sky. With Gerry Island now apparently stripped of overgrowth, I'm looking forward to returning to this spot with a longer lens for some new compositions.
