As a photographer, I've learned to trust my sixth sense which includes when I wake up before dawn, it means conditions are good for a sunrise shoot. With that in mind, I silently left the house at 6am and drove along Humphrey Street trying to judge the light. Dawn’s Early Light

On Sunday morning, I awoke just after 5am and decided to make the most of that with a photo outing at the State Street Landing. I had checked sunrise location and times and thought I read that the sun would cross the horizon at 6:20am. Given that, I drove out early and arrived at State Street to find a slowly developing yellow-orange glow of dawn's early light. And I almost missed it... I woke up this morning just after 5 for no good reason and decided to take advantage of the early wake up with a photo outing. Crossing the Line – Fishermans Beach

I did it. I crossed the line. Got a text earlier in the day from Mark Katz inviting me to a photographer meet up at Fisherman's Beach. I confirmed with him that he indeed meant to invite me across the line to shoot in Swampscott ;-) I ended up hanging out with him and a few other photographers from both Marblehead and Swampscott and took a few shots as a nice sunset formed over the small harbor and Nahant in the distance.

White Foam and Purple Light

I learned in a post from this same outing back in late July that the proper term for the sea foam that forms at the leading edge of a wave is spume. And yet, I couldn't quite bring myself to call this 'Spume on a Summer Eve'... Enjoy this view of white foam coming ashore on a very calm July evening at Devereux Beach. The sky went through a gamut of colors before finishing off with this purple hue.

On Saturday night, I had headed out of the house when the rain began to fall and ended up at Crocker Park just in time to capture a rainbow over Marblehead Harbor. A Light After the Storm

Yesterday was an awful, terrible, gut punch of a day... I shared a photo of the Marblehead varsity football game that I had shot on Friday night and left at 8am to shoot the JV game. I was excited to capture moments that these kids would hopefully take to heart and love the idea of finding those moments of camaraderie and greatness that seem to only come in the younger years. Endless Sunset

On June 15th one of the best sunsets of the year formed over Marblehead Neck and I happened to have picked the perfect spot from which to capture it. This is the eighth capture I will have shared from that night shooting every which way at Crocker Park. This was just after the peak of light over the Neck which had bathed the water in a golden reflection. Whaler Moon

I missed this month's full moon but realized I had this image from last month that I had yet to share. I had captured the full moon rising over Gerry Island but then drove home along Beacon Street and pulled over when I spotted this scene. I wasn't along shooting the moonrise over Brown's and liked this composition with the whaler appearing in the wake of the light of the moon. The final image justified the multiple mosquito bites I got in the 10 minutes it took to capture this shot.
