I've shared a few images from last Wednesdays outings at mid-day and sunset to capture views from along the neck. I was mostly shooting towards Abbot and the harbor on this day as all the clouds had collected in that section of sky and I found the section overhead to be a fairly boring blue. The View from Peabody Lane

Last Wednesday ended up being a tour of public ways on the Neck and this stop at the end of Peabody Lane provides some great views in either direction. Looking left you can see Abbot Hall and a harbor filled with boats. To the right is the Corinthian Yacht Club and, well, more boats filling the harbor. This is one of the more intimidating public ways as you end up having to walk along the well kept lawn of a home to get to this overlook.

Parker Lane Sunset

On Wednesday, September 8, I headed out twice on photo outings and found myself at one of my favorite public ways both times. Parker Lane can be found shortly after crossing the causeway onto Marblehead Neck and is a small lane leading to a bench that overlooks Marblehead Harbor. There used to be stairs leading down to the shore but those washed away a few years ago. Storm’s A Coming

I mentioned in yesterday's post that I had gone out to Crocker Park on that Wednesday at dawn hoping for a bit of red sky that might precede the coming storm. In the wide view I shared, the hints of red could only be seen close to the horizon. I took advantage of my zoom lens to compose a tighter shot that encompassed the patch of red sky and ignoring the blue surrounding it. Proofing at Crocker

I'm not great at predicting weather but with the coming storm, I figured the old adage 'red sky in morning, sailor take warning' might work in reverse. Turned out to be a lackluster sunrise despite that old saying so I went with plan B... My 2022 Marblehead Calendar proof arrived late last night and it looks great. I immediately approved the full print run and brought the calendar with me this morning just in case. Leading Lines at the Fort

After capturing the view from atop Fort Sewall, I made my way down the stairs and stopped short when I noticed the s-curve of the fence. I decided to use the curve as a leading line which would draw the viewer into the image taking in the new trees planted as part of the renovation before heading off to the distance with boats on their moorings and sunset light in the evening sky.

New Life for the Old Fort

Last week I visited the newly renovated Fort Sewall for the first time in well over two years. It's amazing to realize just how much the fort has changed since we moved to Marblehead in May 2008. Early on, I had captured a favorite shot of a tree in a blanket of white snow in front of the red doors. Barnegat Blue Moon

I had started off at Fort Sewall (my first time since they reopened the site) and had just decided that the low lying haze would block any hope of a good moonrise.
