Birthday Sunrise over Marblehead Neck

Last Tuesday, I celebrated my birthday and awoke before the alarm clock at 5:30am. First Light on an Icy Castle Rock

Yesterday, January 23rd, was slated to be our first near-zero degree day in a while. Dawn of a New Year in Marblehead

2012 began with a sunrise shoot from the roof of the Old North Church. It was therefore with a sense of symmetry and a feeling of starting a new tradition, that I climbed the steps of St Michaels Church to shoot sunrise on January 1st, 2013. Dawn Lights Up Fort Sewall

Two weeks ago, I ventured out at dawn in hopes of a nice sunrise from Front Street and Fort Sewall. Pink Clouds at Dawn Over Marblehead Harbor

Something told me that Tuesday morning's sunrise might be worth an early wake up so I dutifully set the alarm a bit early and made my way out to Front street at 5:30 in the morning. Greystone Beach After the Storm

Dawn over Little Harbor and Marblehead Light

On Saturday morning, I decided to wake up early in hopes that the predicted 35 degree temps would lead to some nice mist/fog coming off the ponds. I drove by Redds and Black Joes but neither was 'misting' nor were there good colors to speak of. Sunrise over Doliber Cove

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, my 6 1/2 year old son woke me up before the sun rose and I decided to make the most of the situation by heading to Grace Oliver beach. After shooting the wider view including the beach, I zoomed in closer for this view. In it, you can just make out the edge of Brown's Island and one of my favorite trees at the edge of Crowninshield Road. The boats in the cove and the swim line add to the scene.
