The Sun Rises over Grace Oliver Beach

On a recent Sunday morning, I was awakened at 4:30am by a certain 6 1/2 year old resident of our household. Dawn’s Warm Glow Bathes Castle Rock

Continuing from yesterday's post, this image was taken 10 minutes later and you can appreciate the warm glow that came with the rising sun. Again, the trick was timing this just right to get the wave with its white froth on the rocks and keep the sense of motion in the waves and ocean. If you have never sat on the beach at Castle Rock (or the comfortable bench overlooking it) drinking coffee and watching the sun rise, I highly recommend it. Sunday Sunrise to Welcome in 2012

This is the first sunrise (and a Sunday sunrise to boot) of 2012 as seen from the steeple of the Old North Church. Sunrise at the Sun Circle of Bleach Bluff Park

Shortly after taking the photo of the anchor at dawn from Preston beach's Beach Bluff park, I made my way around to the sun circle in hopes of capturing the now risen sun. I was fortunate to be one of the few people out at that hour and angled the camera to include the entire structure with the sun on the edge of one of the slabs. Dawn over Preston Beach

I had another gravestone from Old Burial Hill planned for today's post but yesterday's sunrise and possible UFO sighting pre-empted it. The Sun Rises on Cliff Street and the Harbor

A few days after shooting the houses on Cliff Street at sunset, I woke in time for a sunrise. That ended up being an incredible site to behold and was featured several months ago (link). When the sun finished its initial ascent, I drove out to see if I could capture the vibrant orange sky against the now familiar composition of the houses on Cliff Street with Abbot hall behind them. This is an almost perfect mimic of the view from sunset and shows the incredible difference morning and evening light can make.

It’s Going to be a Good Day

After the purple dawn, a deep red sky, a rising red sun, and crossing over the lighthouse, the sun finished its ascent to start a wonderful Summer day. This the last of five posts this week documenting an incredible sunrise over Marblehead harbor. This seemed a perfect way to lead up to my entry in the Marblehead Festival of the Arts as well as a showing of my photos at Lost + Found in Five Corners. Doing the Moondance

After the purple dawn, a deep red sky and a rising red sun, the sun crossed behind the lighthouse at Chandler Hovey park. It wasn't until I arrived home that I was able to make out the name of the boat in the foreground...Moondance. The irony of a boat named after the moon lined up with the rising sun is made more so by the shot I have of the Supermoon that almost exactly mirrors the sun position. The Sun Also Rises

Following the purple dawn and a deep red sky, the sun began its slow ascent just to the left of the lighthouse at Chandler Hovey park. This was shot from Hammond park and the clouds were doing a great job of magnifying this already amazing scene. Let There Be Light

Following a few minutes after yesterday's view of a purple dawn, the sky turned a deep red that was reflected by the boats in the harbor. The clouds formed an incredible shape that looked a bit like the eye of a hurricane as they slowly drifted by. I was fortunate that the wind was minimal as it allowed for a longer exposure that served to accentuate the saturation of the entire scene.
