A Sunburst Over Marblehead Harbor

Hope you're not tired of the Wednesday Sunset theme that has been going on these past few weeks. As I mentioned previously, all of these images were taken during an exceptionally beautiful Summer sunset on August 21st. Marblehead Harbor Bathed in a Red Sunset

For the past two Wednesdays, I have been sharing photos from a single location as an incredible Summer sunset unfolded before me. Intentional Camera Movement – Ocean at Sunset

Last week, I posted an image taken of a wave coming to shore at sunset that I shot with a lens at wide aperture. The effect was to alter the sense of scale of the wave and the image was very well received. I thought I would follow that up with this image taken a few minutes later and with the same lens. Purple Streaks of Sunset

A wave comes ashore at sunset

After shooting my kids at this beach and while waiting for the blue moon to rise, I found myself with just enough time to explore my surroundings. I was on the Goldthwait end of the beach and had two lenses with me. I decided to see if my 100mm lens might make for some interesting seascapes when 'opened up' to its maximum aperture of f/2. Another Epic Sunset over Marblehead Harbor

Riverhead Beach at Sunset

After the big sky that I posted yesterday, I watched as the clouds moved off and sunset's pastel colors took over. I decided to walk down to Riverhead beach and ended up making my way to the boat ramp. With the high tide, I was able to compose this image and use the curb of the ramp as a leading line into the image. I decided to use a long exposure to calm the water and put a polarizer on the front of the lens to help bring out the subtle reflections of the clouds above.

Chasing the Light 5 – Abbot and the Boats under a Pink Sky

This is the last image in our Chasing the Light series. After the light hit its peak, I chose to zoom in from yesterday's wide view and try to compose an image with Abbot Hall and the boats in the harbor while maximizing the light reflected in the water. As opposed to the image taken prior to this where the long shutter speed served to calm the water, I chose to keep the subtle ripples here to add texture to the scene. Chasing the Light 4 – Perfect Sunset from Parker Lane

As I drove from Cove Lane to the next stop, Parker Lane, I was part giddy and part worried. I saw the sky take on incredible hues of color and worried that I would miss the peak of this light.
