Falling Snow on Redd’s Pond

On Wednesday, January 16th, a snow storm was predicted for Marblehead. It was supposed to be a fairly small one with a few inches expected. I decided to try to make the most of the opportunity and headed out at dawn to capture the event. As luck would have it, I arrived at Redd's pond while the snow continued to fall. Keep it Local – Mini Marblehead at the Gerry 5

On December 22nd, the Gerry 5 opened its doors and showed off the great miniaturized town of Marblehead. I headed down with my kids as we had missed this in years past and we all gazed at the incredible work that lay before us. There were a half dozen readily recognizable scenes of Marblehead and a train (seen in the background above) to recreate life as it was decades ago. The Red Doors of Fort Sewall in the Snow

Hope no one is tired of the snow fall from December 30th yet. As I mentioned previously, this was about as perfect of a snow fall as a photographer could hope for. The Sun Rises over Marblehead Harbor and the Lighthouse

When I go out for a shoot, I typically will return with a number of images that I can't wait to share. Long Exposure – The Lighthouse at Sunset

On December 23rd, I headed out to Chandler Hovey Park to photography the lighthouse draped in its holiday best. I had just finished shooting the sunset at Devereux Beach both as fiery and smokey tendrils and had found a nice angle from which to shoot the lighthouse and old oil house. Old Town House Blanketed in Snow

It seems like forever since we had just the right amount and type of snow (not to mention the timing of the fall). This image from the morning of December 30th followed such a perfect snow storm. The snow proved just wet enough to stick to trees and the wind died down to keep it there. Keep it Local – The Stores on Washington Street

Have I mentioned how much I love the parking ban? I know that it can be a royal pain but I could never capture a scene such as this with cars parked along Washington Street. The absence of cars removes much of the dating that can happen with photographs and allows the viewer to imagine this street as it was ten, twenty or a hundred years ago. The Red House on Hooper Street

Back to the snow of December 30th for this image of a house on Hooper Street. I've wanted to capture this house for a long time and found myself in front of it as the light rose on December 30th. I had already photographed State Street and the sunrise from Front Street. The Long Night Moon Rises over the Pier on Mooring Road

The Long Night Moon rose on December 28th and I made a bee line for Mooring Road to try to capture it. Long Exposure – Smoking Tendrils on Devereux Beach

Tuesday means it's time for a Long Exposure image and this time we turn to Devereux beach. I shared an image in color and of much shorter duration taken during the sunset on December 23rd. I had noted these great tendrils that formed as the surf pushed through at certain points. The previous image showed the reflections of sunset [see it by clicking here]. This image was created as a 30 second exposure. The longer duration turned the ocean into mist and I processed this to accentuate the water below and clouds above.
