Crocker Park and Abbot Hall

I am posting this image of a snow covered Crocker Park and unique composition including Abbot Hall in the hopes that it might ward off the coming storm and keep our streets free of any more white flaky stuff.  This winter has been long and cold and really needs to come to an end. Let's see if this works...

Spring Sunrise from Hammond Park

With yet another snowstorm predicted to hit Marblehead in the next few days, I decided to head out early on Sunday morning to capture some storefronts for my Keep it Local series.  I checked the forecast the night before and was hoping for the best with the 'partially cloudy' conditions  that were predicted. As I left the house at 5:45am, the first hints of light appeared and I saw some impressive streaks of clouds.  I only hoped that the clouds would hold their shape and be angled correctly when I reached the harbor.  As I drove, I continued to watch [...]

Keep it Local – Crosby’s Marketplace

I have tried to feature local businesses on Fridays but really felt the need to post a photo of Spring as this too-long Winter comes to a close.  When I looked in my archive, I found this shot taken on April 14, 2012 and figured I could get the proverbial two birds with one shot... Crosby's Marketplace is a compact supermarket located off Washington Street in historic Downtown.  The family owned market has been serving Marblehead for decades and has a few other stores located throughout the North Shore. Within a few weeks, this tree should be in bloom again. [...]

The Working Boats and Abbot Hall

It had been exactly one month since I last went out to capture images in Marblehead.  And so, around sunset, I decided to head out and see if the clouds that had built up over the past few hours might lead to a decent sunset.  I drove across the causeway and looked back only to find the sky too overcast to let through much light.  The clouds over the harbor had some interesting structures though so I crossed and headed down to the water at Riverhead beach. I walked along the water so that I could place some distance between [...]

Looking South at Dawn from Castle Rock

The morning of February 19th turned out to be quite a productive one with a wide range of images taken from the snow covered area around Castle Rock.  After the sun rose, I moved to the edge of Castle Rock and looked down onto the private beach that lines this section of Marblehead Neck. The tide was at a perfect height with just enough beach to form a divide between the ocean and snow covered land.  The soft orange glow of dawn can be seen accentuating the few clouds in the sky and the moon is visible in the upper [...]

Snow Covered Buoys and the Ocean Beyond

This image comes from early February and the morning after a snowstorm.  I've shared a few images taken from the end of Bass Rock Lane and have shared one of this buoy covered shed before as well (though in much warmer conditions). I just couldn't pass up the image of snow covered buoys hanging on the side of the shed with the Atlantic Ocean beyond all lit in dawn's early light.

Marblehead Harbor on a Foggy September Morning

Happy St Patrick's Day from Wednesdays in Marblehead!  I scoured the 'to be posted' archive for images containing green (a color we haven't seen in months during this cold long winter).  My eye was drawn to this view of Marblehead Harbor taken from the public way at the end of Peabody Lane. On this particular morning, a light fog had rolled in as I moved from one location to the next capturing images of Marblehead Harbor.  As you can see, this one includes a nice vibrant patch of green grass and bushes thus making it an easy choice for this [...]

Keep it Local – Khouri Flooring

Today's Keep it Local entry features Khouri Flooring which moved to its current location on Washington Street in the Summer of 2013 and promptly volunteered its space for the Marblehead Festival of Arts Photography Display. Khouri flooring is a family owned business which offers an array of flooring products and has been doing so for over 85 years.  Visit them at 139 Washington Street or online at: http://khouriflooring.com This winter has been a tough one for capturing Marblehead's storefronts for this 'Keep it Local' Friday feature.  I try to shoot these stores in the mornings during the winter parking ban to [...]

Lights on the Causeway

This image comes from the morning of February 6 and followed the image of the tree at Fort Sewall.  When I composed that wider shot to include the snow covered branches of the tree, I had noticed the bright lights of the causeway shining at regular intervals.  I decided to reposition the camera near the edge of the walkway at the fort and zoom in to highlight the alternating lights against the clouds and sky in the blue hour of dawn.

Ready for Summer – Kayaking past Naugus Head

I'm done.  This is the longest, coldest winter I ever care to experience and it shows no signs of letting go yet.  I shared images of snow on Monday and Tuesday so I thought it was time to bring out a warm image today. This was taken on July 16th when a good friend invited me onto his boat for a ride around the waters of Marblehead.  We started out in Salem harbor and I noticed this kayaker as we motored by the shore and approached Naugus Head.  The sun had started to descend in the sky at this hour [...]
