Lights and Shadows on the Causeway

Fog Week continues on Wednesdays in Marblehead with this - the first image taken on a recent night of dense fog in Marblehead. As soon as the fog rolled in, I knew I had to head to the causeway. I had previously photographed a great foggy night on the causeway where I was lucky enough to capture people walking along the causeway. I realized I had never captured the causeway from the Marblehead Neck side though and sought to rectify that on this night. November Sunset over the Causeway

We had some incredible sunsets to mark the beginning of November. Friday's was breathtaking but I had to resign myself to enjoy it from my car as I made it home too late to get the camera and still capture those amazing colors. All Along the Causeway

I shared an image of the sunset over Marblehead Harbor on Tuesday that came from a shoot on August 19th. This image was taken about an hour earlier and it seemed like a good time to share it as well. Riverhead Beach and the Causeway

Flag on a Lamp Post

A simple, clean composition to end the week. This image comes from mid-July and a trip to Devereux Beach to capture a long exposure of the ocean [LINK]. Before taking that shot and while the sun was still high up in the sky, I spotted the American flag on this nearby lamp post on the mainland part of the causeway. I chose a vertical or portrait orientation to capture the full length of the lamp post and went with a wide angle lens to heighten the separation from lamp post to the shores of Marblehead Neck. Commercial Street Dock Under the Half Moon

On Wednesday, April 3rd, I awoke before the sun rose and headed out in search of good light. I ended up at Hammond Park and shared an image from there last week. After that image, I kept looking for new and different compositions and happened upon this one. The Wave and the Causeway

The latest storm to hit our shores made landfall on Thursday, March 7th and the forecasters were predicting huge waves and storm surges at high tide. Though I had to drop off my son at school and be at work by 9, I figured there was enough time to sneak out of the house at daybreak and try to capture some storm shots. Experimental Friday – Tilt Shift on Devereux Beach

Another entry for Experimental Friday and another attempt with the borrowed tilt shift lens. After shooting the playground, I decided to try my hand at the causeway and the seal embedded in the concrete. By using this special lens, I was able to keep the lamp posts in the distance lined up straight while still playing with the plane of focus and keeping the guard rail out of the frame. Tonight’s Sunset over the Causeway

For the first night in what seems like forever, the conditions seemed right for a solid sunset. There were nice clouds in the sky, it wasn't bitterly cold out and I was free to shoot (not stuck at work watching as the sky exploded in different colors).
