Marblehead – A Model New England Town

In late November 2014, as Abbot Hall tower was nearing the end of its much needed repairs, I was invited atop the scaffolding to help document the work that was taking place. With a perfect vantage point from which to capture images of historic downtown and the harbor, I couldn't help but shoot the nearly endless compositions that presented themselves. Longing for Summer Sunsets

As the days get longer, one can't help longing for Summer sunsets over Marblehead harbor. This incredible sunset filled with pinks and purples formed over a full harbor on July 21, 2013 and I was setup at the Pleon Yacht Club's pier for a perfect vantage point. This particular sunset seemed to go on forever (I have images starting to show brilliant pinks at 8:20 and finishing 11 minutes later). I can't wait for a full harbor and warm days to recapture these moments in Marblehead.

Leaves Aglow in Doliber’s Cove

In 2014, I sent my older camera to be modified so that it could shoot infrared images. The benefit of this is that foliage reflects infrared while a deep blue sky (and ocean) absorbs this wavelength of light. Once the infrared images are converted to black and white, the result can be a dramatic image that is not possible to achieve with an unmodified camera. Days End at Marblehead Light

In mid-May of 2013, I headed to Chandler Hovey Park in hopes of capturing some nice color to marks the days end. The clouds had built up during the day but a small clearing formed at the horizon just as the sun set. The Road Back to Town

The path between Gerry Island the main land is one of the most magical pieces of Marblehead - appearing twice a day like clockwork at low tide and disappearing without a trace as the tide rolls back in. I was out on Gerry Island hoping for a solid sunset backdrop for this image of the boats and houses along Doaks Lane. While the sunset never materialized, I still really liked this image of the road back to town leading the eye toward the mainland. Have a great weekend!

Summer Sail through Marblehead Harbor

This image was captured two days before yesterday's shot and accompanying gallery. I had been going out to shoot on a fairly regular basis (tomorrow's image was taken 4 days before this one) and had ended up on the Neck with a nice view of the Abbot Hall, St. Michael's steeple and Grace Community Church as the sun set. The Great Tree and the Perfect Storm

This image is the perfect example of the archive that I have built up over these past six years. On July 24th, a perfect rain cloud passed over Marblehead and I was fortunate to have the camera in my trunk as I drove back into town. Moored in the Mouth of the Harbor

Today's image comes from June 21st and a trip across the causeway to this small beach at the end of Cove Lane. The Pier at Parker Lane

So this image was taken 6 minutes before yesterday's of a harbor filled with boats. As I mentioned yesterday, I had gone out to Parker Lane (one of the public ways) to shoot the Summer sunset and found some dramatic light before me. Prior to shooting the peak of sunset's color, I composed this image of a private pier under beautiful clouds.
