Greystone Beach After the Storm

For the past few days now, I've been chasing Sandy's effects both during and after the storm's peak. Sunrise over Doliber Cove

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, my 6 1/2 year old son woke me up before the sun rose and I decided to make the most of the situation by heading to Grace Oliver beach. After shooting the wider view including the beach, I zoomed in closer for this view. In it, you can just make out the edge of Brown's Island and one of my favorite trees at the edge of Crowninshield Road. The boats in the cove and the swim line add to the scene. Lobster Traps and the American Flag

On a late June morning and after shooting the sun rise over the harbor, I made my way to the landing to check for any good photo opportunities. Sunrise on the Summer Solstice

Keep it Local – Scribe and Hip Baby Gear

With the lack of snow this Winter, I decided to head to Old Town and capture more images for my Keep it Local series. I had gotten an image of Hip Baby gear earlier but was trying to find a good angle with which to capture Scribe next door. I finally took a few steps back and found this composition showcasing the intersection with its flashing yellow light and the old buildings that house these relatively new businesses. Morning Comes to Little Harbor

In early December, I ventured out at sunrise to explore the light and various spots in town. As I drove through Old Town, I found myself at the small launch near the Marblehead Lobster Company off Orne Street. From the Rooftops – Washington Street and Abbot Hall

Back to Old North Church for another view of the sunrise from the rooftops. This is one of a series of images taken on January 1st, 2012 as I welcomed the new year with Rhod Sharp on the cupola of the Old North Church. I've shown views looking down Washington Street towards Little Harbor, Gerry Island and the Lighthouse previously. This one looks back up toward Old Town and Abbot Hall. The architecture of these old houses makes it easy for the eye to slowly walk up the street toward Abbot Hall in the distance.

Morning Comes to Castle Rock

The last of this week's three part series ends with an overlook shot from Castle Rock. After taking images at dawn and as the sun rose, I climbed back up the rocks and stairs for one final view of the beach. I don't know if there are any other spots in town that rival this for watching the sun rise. Dawn’s Warm Glow Bathes Castle Rock

Continuing from yesterday's post, this image was taken 10 minutes later and you can appreciate the warm glow that came with the rising sun. Again, the trick was timing this just right to get the wave with its white froth on the rocks and keep the sense of motion in the waves and ocean. If you have never sat on the beach at Castle Rock (or the comfortable bench overlooking it) drinking coffee and watching the sun rise, I highly recommend it.
